Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, one of the most perfect places for this concert and what a Christmas Cracker… amid all the chaos of gifts, wrapping, turkeys was this oasis of pure joy that is the annual Christmas concert. I took my 78 year old mother with me and she was thrilled to have the chance to enjoy some Christmas spirit in our very own city of Glasgow.
We had very comfortable seats with a great view of everything around us. The first half of the show was compared by the very funny conductor Graham Taylor, who made you feel so relaxed with his chat and his jokes. The first part of the show was carols, beautifully sung by the city of Glasgow chorus, with the very talented orchestra of Scottish opera. The carols were a mixture of old and new, which made you forget all your pre-Christmas worries. At the interval, the very helpful staff of the Royal Concert Hall gave out Christmas crackers which had to be pulled when told.
The second half started with the choir and the orchestra all decked out with Christmas hats and flashing lights and I knew the second half would be fun. It started off with the very rousing sleigh ride, followed by songs from popular Broadway and Hollywood shows. Graham Taylor had said that in the past he had reviews like lacklustre, well all I can say is they must have reviewed the wrong concert. People were swaying in their seats and it was great to see a mixture of ages present. Before we got to the full audience singing well known Christmas songs, was the audience participation of the twelve days of Christmas, it was so much fun and we raised the roof.
We finished the night with the much loved White Christmas. It was a night I can’t wait to repeat next year. Well done and thank you for a great night.
I would highly recommend this to everyone to give you some festive cheer.
