Adnams Beaujolais Wine Review

Reviewed by Amanda Snowdon

I’d tried several of the Adnams beers in the past and hadn’t been disappointed, so when the courier delivered a bottle of their Beaujolais in the morning, I was looking forward to it all day!

I’m always nervous about ordering wine or other drinks to be delivered, as glass plus postal systems aren’t two things you normally want to combine. However, the bottle came presented and secured in a cardboard box with the right amount of packaging to ensure that it was well protected without being over the top.

I must confess that at the supermarket I pick my wine by the label, so I was quick to do a first impression of this Beaujolais. The blue and burgundy design didn’t disappoint, with a trumpet (or maybe a trombone?) intertwined with vine leaves making a very enticing label.

My husband and I enjoyed the wine one evening as the label suggested, alongside delicatessen meats. Adnams describe this red wine as having “ripe summer fruit flavours”, and can be served slightly cool – we followed this and gave it a few minutes in the fridge to chill. A little bonus of the wine is that it was sealed with an actual cork! I’ve found lately that many good wines are moving to screw top bottles, so to open with a corkscrew at this price point (RRP £8.99) was great.

I’m not used to drinking cooled red wine, but it did seem to enhance the flavours. Overall this was a fresh, mouth-watering wine and I’ve been keeping an eye out for it in the supermarket ever since.
