I have been a big fan of Alan Davies since the early days of the BAFTA award winning TV show Johnathan Creek, so I was very excited at the prospect of seeing his live Little Victories one man show at the Lowry Theatre in Salford, Manchester.
When we arrived at The Lowry, we found it very accessible. We parked the car easily in the safe, multi-storey car park and walked the short distance to the modern, attractive theatre, with its expansive riverside views. We quickly obtained our tickets from the desk and were shown to our seats by the helpful staff.
Alan was welcomed warmly by the audience who participated throughout the two and a half hour long show with great enthusiasm. The theatre was completely full with a wide range of people from different age groups. One of the first questions which Alan asked the audience was in which decade they were born with people ranging from 16 to 80 years old. Alan was at his funniest when he was interacting with the audience who took great delight in joining in with the banter. The time absolutely flew by as Alan talked funnily about everyday situations involving his family life. He captivated the audience from start to finish with warm and witty observations about his Dad, who has Alzheimer’s disease, his young children learning to swear and even Alan’s sex life. The title ‘Little Victories’ derives from a childhood tale of managing to get one over on his Dad when he finally tricked him into eating blackcurrant jam hidden between the layers of a birthday cake.
Alan had us all in stitches throughout the show, in fact I can’t remember laughing so much at a comedian. We had an amazing evening.
If you get the chance to see this show, you really must. It is hilariously funny and I cannot recommend it highly enough.
