Aldi Crofton Retro Hand Mixer Review

Reviewed by Lucy Knight

I received my retro hand mixer a couple of days ago and have used it a couple of times this weekend to make brownies and a pie with my 5 year old daughter. She loves to bake and was delighted when I showed her our new gadget.

The mixer comes in three different colours: blue, yellow and white. We received the yellow one and I love how quirky it is. It’s a great size and isn’t bulky when in use. The sift grip handle naked it comfortable to hold.

It comes in a nice compact cardboard box complete with stainless steel beaters, which are used for batters, egg whites, whipping cream and mixing gravy and stainless steel dough hooks, which are used for yeast doughs, short pastries or doughs containing potatoes such as dumplings or fritters. I managed to use both features, the beaters when making chocolate brownies and the dough hooks for making short crust pastry.

For the pastry I used the recipe which was found in the easy to follow instruction book. Whereas, for the brownies, I used a recipe that I found online. The mixer was really easy to use and made such a positive difference to my baking. I’m quite old school and use a wooden spoon for mixing, as this is how my mum taught me to bake. However, I think I am converted! I just love how easy it is to use and there has been so many times I have needed to use a mixer for certain recipes and have not been able to, but now I can. I am a member of a slimming group and I make lots of tweaked recipes for desserts that require a hand mixer, so I will be able to get trying these now.

The mixer has 5 speeds, a turbo function and a powerful 350 Watt motor. It really is a great little gadget. I love the easy eject button for the quick release of the beaters and dough hooks, it saves getting messy full of cake mix, you can just eject them into the washing up bowl.

Overall this is a great product, it is easy to use and my 5 year old even had a quick supervised try of it. It’s a really good buy at £14.99 and I would definitely recommend.
