Aldi Prebuilt Gingerbread House Kit Review

Reviewed by Dorothy White

Despite a very early start and a long day having been to the pantomime in the morning, met the other grandparents of one grandchild for lunch, then shopping, the girls were still really keen to decorate the Aldi Gingerbread House when they got home.  It was already prebuilt. The icing was ready made and all the sweets were included.

The girls aged eleven and nine opened the box and were excited by the number of sweets included in the kit.

They both read the instructions and took turns to knead the bag of icing until it became the consistency of toothpaste. I then cut off the end of the nozzle for them, but the icing still wouldn’t come out, so they kneaded the icing some more, and I cut more off the nozzle.

Success, they could squeeze out the icing!!!

They took it in turns, one decorating one end and side of the house, plus one half of the roof, then the other had her turn. They each did their own design! A couple of pieces of the roof had broken off in transit, no worries, they just stuck them back with icing!

They really enjoyed themselves decorating this house with the icing and sticking the sweets on. Once they were happy with their efforts they still had plenty of icing left, there were also quite a few sweets left, they counted them out very carefully between them and ate them!

They both had a lovely time decorating the house and can’t wait until they are allowed to eat it!

It was trial and error with how long to knead the icing for, I am sure it took them longer than the minute it suggests, and I had a couple of goes at cutting off the end of the nozzle, but we got there!

Decorating a Gingerbread house was a lovely activity for my grandchildren to do ready for Christmas, and my two granddaughters loved it!!

I can thoroughly recommend this activity.

Aldi sells enough gingerbread houses to measure the height of 20 London Shards!
Supermarket Erects Giant Gingerbread House to Celebrate Festive Food Sales

Christmas celebrations have started early for Aldi as sales of several of their traditional festive treats show a rise on last year.

Aldi’s bestselling gingerbread house has seen impressive sales since it launched in store for the festive season.

In fact, at 14cm high each, Aldi has sold enough gingerbread houses to measure 6,370 metres, which is the equivalent of 20 London Shard’s – the tallest building in the UK – or  425 double-decker buses.

The amount of gingerbread houses sold is also equal to 66 Big Ben’s, 40 Blackpool Tower’s or 1,158 Giraffes!

Other festive treats to see a sales rise include Aldi’s classic 12 Month Matured Christmas puddings, which are up by 9 per cent year on year.

To celebrate their solid festive food sales, Aldi erected a giant replica of the Aldi gingerbread house in Manchester’s city centre.

A ‘Mrs Claus’ and jolly team of Aldi elves were on hand to welcome Christmas shoppers with a taster of some seasonal Aldi Christmas treats too – including gingerbread men.

Joint Managing Director for Corporate Buying at Aldi, Tony Baines, said: “We are delighted to see such solid sales of our very traditional festive treats. It shows that that while shoppers’ tastes can vary there is a strong appetite for our classic seasonal sellers.

“We hope our giant replica of the gingerbread house kit brought some festive fun in the midst of one of the busiest shopping days in the lead up to Christmas and that our Aldi elves inspired shoppers to discover and enjoy all that Aldi has to offer.”
