An Overnight Stay in London Review

I recently spent a recent weekend in London for a friend’s birthday. We had spent the night before in Brighton, so arrived at St Pancras Train station (Thameslink route) late afternoon.  We headed off to find our hotel, Travelodge London Central Kings Cross. It was just a 5 minute short walk from St Pancras train station. Upon arrival, a helpful member of staff checked us in. We were on the 3rd floor. There was a lift as well as stairs so easily accessible for everyone. Our room was not huge, but big enough for what we needed. It was actually really cosy.

I was relieved to see that the windows had an extra pane of glass to deaden noise. That said, we could still hear the sirens outside clearly, but this it to be expected for central London. We relaxed for an hour or so, before going out for a walk over to Regent Street. We then walked back and stopped off in The Rocket on Euston Road, near Euston train station. There we enjoyed a burger and a drink for around £6 each, which I thought was amazing considering that we were in Central London. Our food came really quickly and we really enjoyed it.

We then headed back to the hotel. I would say the biggest plus points about our hotel were the facilities close by like local convenience shops and food outlets, plus the very short walk to the train station of course. We enjoyed a quiet evening at the hotel watching TV. The king size bed was really comfortable. It would be tempting to take up their offer of buying one for home.

The following morning, we enjoyed a light breakfast in their restaurant. They offer a light breakfast as they do not have full kitchen facilities.

We then headed off over to the Tower of London area of London, before returning home via the Thameslink trains early afternoon.

We had a great time in London and the Travelodge offered a convenient local for central London sightseeing and shopping. Thameslink offer some great routes in and out of the capital making it easy to visit.

Thameslink and Southern run frequent services between London and Brighton including journeys that cross the capital from Bedford, Luton and St Albans. Super Off-Peak tickets, valid at weekends and on bank holidays, give discounts of at least 20% and kids go for just £2 each when travelling with an adult. visit www.thameslinkrailway.com and www.southernrailway.com.
