I was sent an ASUS Transformer Book to try out and I’m loving it. Basically it is a portable hybrid laptop / tablet so you get the functionality of a full laptop with all the ultra-portable benefits of a tablet!
This 2-in-1 computer is excellent for all your portable computing needs. The thin sleek black design looks great and is packed with features including a micro SD card reader, micro USB and micro HDMI ports.
While I find a tablet great for emails, internet and video, for me it isn’t the best thing to work on all day. This means I also have a laptop for day to day work and a tablet while I’m out and about so that I am still able to access my emails (as long as I have a wireless connection). So the ASUS Transformer Book is the best for both depending on what I need to be doing. And my favourite part of it is that the detachable keyboard also has an internal 500gb hard drive as external storage for the tablet so you can still have access to your files without the need for cloud storage or other storage devices to carry around. I have used other hybrid laptops / tablets and this is this first one I have used that has a hard drive (I’m sure there are others).
Supplied with Windows 8.1, an 11.6″ touch screen, a powerful 1.46Ghz Intel Quad Core processor a 2gb RAM it is a fast portable device. The tablet has 32gb of storage space and as I mentioned there is the extra 500gb in the detachable keyboard base so perfect for work and play.
Once the tablet is docked onto the keyboard the screen can be folded down just like a regular laptop. On the dock is a full size keyboard (without number pad) and also a built in trackpad.
The screen itself is crystal clear and shows bright, vibrant colours and is very quick and responsive to touch along with being accurate to finger touch (some cheaper tablet touch screens I have used in the past can be quite slow and unresponsive or not quite calibrated correctly).
Once docked you can use the trackpad to move around just like a regular laptop and you can also use the touch screen. The dock also has USB 2 and USB 3 ports so you can still connect USB devices.
Overall the ASUS Transformer Book is packed with features including wifi and Bluetooth connections. It is lightweight so easy to carry around, it weighs approx. 1.5kg with the keyboard dock attached. The screen is bright and clear and the speed is great. This is the perfect computer for home and office use.
It is also equipped with a front 2mp camera and a rear 5mp camera so is perfectly for picture taking and video chat and give great quality images.
Some tablets can sound tinny but this has 2 speakers giving excellent sound quality and it also has a headphone jack so you don’t annoy others while watching your favourite film or listening to mp3’s.
With a battery that lasts around 10 hours before needing a charge that is enough for work or play.
I would highly recommend an ASUS Transformer Book for business or pleasure. The dual functionality and the extra storage space with the built in hard drive is a must for anyone that requires more than just email and internet usage.
I have been using it for about 2 weeks and haven’t come across any issues with it. A perfect piece of computing equipment. It might be time to swap my laptop and tablet for a Transformer Book.
