bakerdays Letterbox Cake Review

Reviewed by Katie Allen

My Grandmother-in-law’s birthday was coming up and she literally has everything. She was also due to go into hospital the day after her birthday and I knew no one would be treating her to her own birthday cake. I work part time and have a lively pre-schooler to look after so the idea of making a cake myself and transporting it to her in one piece didn’t appeal. Hence finding baker days.

bakerdays make personalised cakes for any occasion. I was especially interested in the “letterbox cake” as this way Grandma DoDo would be able to receive her cake in time for her birthday and operation. The letterbox cake is simply a cake that will fit through a standard sized letterbox so can be delivered by the postman. It measures 5″ in diameter (12cm diameter, 2.5cm high).

There were hundreds of designs to look through. In fact, if I had one criticism it would be that there are too many choices. It was tricky and time consuming to browse through all of them and so hard to decide from the many options.

Eventually I chose a butterfly cake which had beautiful watercolour style flowers painted on the icing. There were 6 cake “flavours” to choose from including gluten free and dairy free options. I could also choose a specific delivery date.

Once these options were selected I was able to move on and personalise the cake. Here I could write up to 5 lines of script and also the style of the writing (e.g. colour, font and size).  When you chose your personalisation, you can see a preview immediately meaning, for example, that you can change the font size to fit more words. This enables you to have complete control over the cake you’re sending.

I completed my personalisation and ticked the box stating I was happy with my design and then moved on to registering my account and paying.

The cake was delivered on time and DoDo was overjoyed. it was delivered in a really cute box (almost like a CD box set) with the cake itself wrapped in cellophane. The colours were vivid, looking hand-painted and the smell was delicious.

All in all, I was very satisfied with the cake and wouldn’t hesitate to order again and recommend to my friends.

Rating: 4.5/5
