You never know what shows you will get picked to review, it always seem the more you want to see something the less likely you will be chosen to review. I have wanted to see Beautiful The Carole King Musical for quite some time. Delighted was an understatement to attend opening night at Milton Keynes last night (20 February 2018).

It didn’t disappoint me. Milton Keynes Theatre was packed I didn’t spot an empty seat. From the get go, I was in. The show tells the story of the then 16-year-old Carole Klein aspiring song writer who meets Gerry Goffin lyrics writer and their journey through the music world.

Carole who? some may say, but when the hits are rolled out through the show there’s not one you don’t know. Between them they wrote some amazing hits.

Step into the limelight… Bronte Barbe. Amazing amazing voice just got better as the show went on. I was captivated anyways and thought it wouldn’t get any better than ‘it’s too late’. Then she sang ‘You’ve got a friend’ but for me the showstopper was ‘you make me feel like a Natural Woman’. It put the hairs up on the back of my neck. Stunning. Honestly what frustrates me most about musical theatre is everyone is so reserved give the girl a sign she’s amazing… more than a polite clap at the end of the song.

All credit to the whole cast. Superstars all, loved Kane Oliver Parry as Gerry, Amy Ellen Richardson as Cynthia Matthew Gonsalves as Barry and Adam Howden as Donny. I can’t fault one voice, they were all amazing. The dancing the singing it was all fantastic. The innuendo. Captivating. The Drifters, The Shirelles, all deserve a mention. It’s an incredible interesting story of a girl from Brooklyn, I can’t see anything about this show that’s not to love. They had me from the start and I think it’s my new favourite… I could watch this again again and again. They thoroughly deserved the standing ovation, I most definitely wanted more. Get yourself a ticket you most definitely will not be disappointed. Stunning, I loved it.
