Oast & Squire

I am first to admit with three children under the age of 5, I am no easy customer and I do tend to avoid dining out with the boys, but with it being my mother-in-laws birthday we decided to try the Oast & Squire at Fareham.
As we pulled into the car park there was ample parking at the front and rear of the building with each car park space generous in size. Much to my father-in-laws delight there was plenty of disabled car park spaces too. As soon as we entered the building we were greeted by friendly staff and shown to our table. I was surprised at the layout inside that greeted me. Rather than the open plan family restaurants that I am used to it had a cosy feel with plenty of booths and tables. Within a few minutes of us arriving we were greeted by our waitress for the evening asking if we wanted any drinks while we looked at the menu.
Our drinks arrived promptly and in good tradition we had only managed to look and decide what the children were having, much to my delight our waitress took the children’s order so they did not have to wait too long for their food and delivered some crayons, colouring in sheets and balloons to keep them amused.
The menu had an excellent selection of food on offer and there was also a good selection of meals all reasonably priced. There is also a special selection of meals on offer for those dining Monday – Thursday before 6.30pm which offered even more value for money. I was particularly impressed that each meal came with the offer of ‘bottomless chips’. The children’s menu also had a large amount of choices with the offer of a meal deal too even donating a small amount of money from each child’s meal deal to charity.
Before we knew it our food was arriving. When I had ordered my twins food they could not decide on what they wanted, they both wanted fish fingers and sausages so we had ordered one of each to keep them happy. Our waitress, Charlie, had taken the time to divide each of these dishes up so we did not have to I did not have the usual arguments that usually follow. The portions were of good size, well presented and tasted as good as they looked. My father-in-law even managed to order an extra portion of his bottomless chips and I was surprised on how quickly the extra order arrived at our table.
Even though I could have done without I was tempted by the dessert menu, the only issue was trying to decide on what to have. The boys really enjoyed their special dessert, it consisted of some ice-cream, chocolate brownies, marshmallows and chocolate sauce all in little pots for them to make up their own pudding as they wanted. For once they were captivated and they did not move until every last piece was finished.
Overall I was mightily impressed with everything that the Oast and Squire had to offer. A great selection of tasty food all reasonably priced, a restaurant with a lovely atmosphere but most of all great staff. They really made that extra effort to ensure we had a great experience and a lovely meal. It was really personable and our waitress made sure that nothing was too much trouble and took the time to chat with my boys. Even staff members who did not serve us also took the time to chat with us as they were passing.
I would not hesitate to rate this restaurant five out of five and even though we have only dined there a few nights ago we have already arranged our next visit.
