What better way to spend a Saturday than with a spot of retail therapy? And what better way to start the day than with a good breakfast to prepare you for the bargain hunting ahead. Today’s shopping destination is Stockport and our day is starting at Frankie & Benny’s. The restaurant is ideally located at the Peel Centre Retail Park, where there are a variety of shops, including Toys r Us and Hobbycraft (both favourites of ours!). The town centre is also within walking distance so you can park up here and walk to the other shops. The parking is reasonably priced at £2 for 2-4 hours. Although it was already busy when we arrived at 10:30am we were able to find a parking space easily.

Our table was booked for 11am so we were a little early; we went inside anyway to see if our table was ready. We waited at the entrance for a few moments and then were greeted by a polite lady who located our booking and told us that she was just putting cutlery on our table and that we were welcome to wait in the bar area. My young nephew, who is 3, soon helped himself to a complementary balloon and enjoyed sitting on a ‘big stool’ to wait for our table. We were asked by the bartender if we would like any drinks, we decided to wait until we were seated. Our table was soon ready and we were shown to our seats and given our menus. There was a special menu for my nephew and an activity pack to keep him busy while we waited for our food. The pack contained a multicoloured pencil, a game and some colouring and puzzles. The pack has activities to suit children of all ages and is a nice touch, along with the balloons.

Our table was next to the window and we had plenty of space for all of my nephew’s baggage! He enjoyed looking out of the window at the buses going past. We ordered our drinks, which were brought quickly to our table, we all chose fruit juice and my nephew soon finished his small plastic cup. I asked the waitress for another and she brought him a larger glass, which he was happy with as he likes to be the same as the grown-ups!

The table was clean and was already set with napkins, cutlery and a selection of condiments. The decor of the restaurant is to Frankie & Benny’s signature theme of red, white and green; with black and white pictures of old Italian sports men and people enjoying hearty Italian food. The menu follows this theme with lots of comforting food options and a delicious variety of deserts! Even with my sweet tooth I couldn’t go with a desert at breakfast! Although, if you fancied something sweet, the stack of pancakes with blueberry ice-cream, looked delicious.

There was a breakfast option on the children’s menu, sausage, fried eggs and baked beans, my nephew doesn’t like eggs but the waitress was happy to offer chips as an alternative. His mum and I ordered the traditional breakfast, but neither of us like mushroom or tomatoes, so we were asked if we would like anything instead. I chose some toast and my sister in law chose hash browns. The food came fairly promptly and was hot and fresh when it arrived. The breakfast we ordered consists of sausage, bacon, fried eggs, mushroom, tomato, beans and herby potatoes. There is a selection of other options on the breakfast menu including eggs benedict, breakfast rolls, pancakes with bacon, or just simply toast if you preferred. The main meals on the breakfast menu are reasonably priced at £5 each, with an option to add a refillable tea or coffee for £1.85. The food was delicious, well cooked and flavoursome. We were asked if we needed any other condiments and within a few minutes of our food arriving we were asked by our server if everything was ok.

The table was cleared promptly after we had finished, and we were asked if we would like anything else. We ordered an ice-cream for my nephew, there was a choice of chocolate, strawberry or vanilla, it came in a little sundae glass with chocolate sauce and little chocolate pieces. My nephew soon tucked into this and remarked, ‘it’s delicious!’ He was also given a small packet of white chocolate buttons to take away.

Before we hit the shops a toilet break was in order! The toilets were clean and well maintained, soap dispensers and tissue holders were well stocked, the only thing I say required a small improvement was that the bathroom was a little chilly, but that is just me being picky! (I am the kind of girl who wears socks in bed!).

On the whole we really enjoyed our breakfast and our visit. The restaurant is warm, inviting, clean and well located. The food was delicious and filling, and very good value for money. It is a very child friendly restaurant and the staff made every effort to talk to my nephew and make him feel special. All the staff were polite, well turned out and helpful. We will definitely call here for breakfast on our next shopping trip to Stockport. Or maybe we will make it lunch so I can have one of the yummy deserts!

Thanks Frankie & Benny’s!
