This weekend we were lucky enough to be invited to the grand opening of the new play area at Burleydam Brewer’s Fayre. On arrival we were greeted by friendly staff at the door, quickly shown to our table and given wrist bands for the brand new Dennis the Menace themed play area. The play area is free for children eating in the restaurant but if you fancy only visiting the play area it is £3 for 90 minutes play.
We have found it difficult in the past finding places suitable for our children who range in age from 9 months to 10, but fortunately the play area had things to amuse them all. There was a small area for babies with baby walkers, soft play building blocks and a soft mirror, and the bigger children loved the swinging ropes and slide in the larger area. There was also an area with tables to be used for art and craft activities. To enter the play area you are required to sign in at the door, although security could probably be improved with a gate. The play area was a good size to allow easy supervision of the children. As it was the opening day we were also treated to a fantastic face painter and even a visit from Dennis the Menace himself!
After 2 hours of play, face painting, drawing and running away from Dennis (our 2 year old wasn’t his biggest fan!) we were more than ready for dinner. There are tables available to eat within the play area room, although I’m not sure how easy it would be to convince younger children to eat their meal while other kids are playing so I was glad our table was located within the restaurant area. For our main courses the adults had smothered chicken and a Brewers Fayre burger and the kids had Hot dogs and macaroni cheese. All the portion sizes were very generous and we all enjoyed it. For dessert the kids loved their chocolate sundaes. My husband and I both had the chocolate fudge cake, which was an absolutely massive slice but very tasty.
We all had a great afternoon out at the Brewer’s Fayre. All the staff in the play area and restaurant were very friendly and approachable, the kids loved the play area and the food was good. As I’m sure all parents will appreciate when you go out for a meal children aren’t always the most patient when it comes to sitting still and waiting for food so having the play area available definitely makes things a whole lot easier.
