We know Stourbridge well, and we were really happy to hear that a Brewers Fayre was opening here! Brewers Fayre pubs are always good value for money and a great place to go as a family. We always take our children with us, so this time we thought we would try a different angle and go to the Brewers Fayre as a couple.

The Brewers Fayre is really easy to get to, adjacent to Premier Inn, with a large car park. The carpark was busy, but we were able to find a space easily. On entry to restaurant, we first noticed how busy it was! The pub was full and had a really lively atmosphere. It was incredibly bright and light, and the décor was clean and modern.

We were greeted by a member of staff who then took us to our table. She explained the menu to us, and then left us to peruse the menu. We had to take our table number and order at the bar. On the table were a selection of menus – a standard menu, children’s menu and a ‘specials’ menu, as well as a drinks menu.

Although we were two adults dining, we still had a look at the children’s menu as we generally bring the children with us! I was pleased to see that the children’s menu had a great selection of healthy and traditional pub food. There were a range of starters, main courses and puddings available for children and the meals come with a Dennis the Menace colouring pack – definitely a plus point from a parent’s perspective!

Next we looked at the drinks menu. I was pleased to see that the pricing here was clear and reasonable. There was clear labelling indicating how many units of alcohol were in each drink and what the recommended limits are. There was an excellent selection of drinks, including a decent wine list! They served my favourite ‘Barefoot zinfandel rose’ which pleased me greatly and my husband was able to have his Cornish favourite ‘Doom Bar’.

The specials menu showed us that every night of the week there was a different theme, with food available from the chef’s counter in addition to the standard menu. Special nights include; Fish and Chip night, Mexican night, Italian night, Curry night etc… We were too late to order from the specials menu, so we selected our meals off the main menu.

There were some great offers on the main menu, such as a weekday deal where you could order 2 starters for £2.50, 2 mains for £10 and 2 puddings for £2.50.To be able to have a 3 course meal for 2 people for £20 is fantastic value.

I ordered at the bar and was served quickly and politely. We ordered two courses each – Nachos and a prawn cocktail for starters; cheese and tomato quiche and chips, and a rump steak for the main course.

The food was brought out in good time. The starters were delicious and there was plenty there! The time left between courses was spot on so we were ready for our mains when they arrived. As a vegetarian, if I’m honest, there was not a lot of choice for me, but I did really enjoy my quiche! My husband’s rump steak was cooked to perfection. We both managed to clear our plates, and didn’t leave much, so it must have been good.

We thought we were finished at this point. The food had been perfect and we had had a lovely relaxing time, and felt full. After our plates had been cleared, we were asked if we wanted dessert. Out of interest, I had a little look at the dessert menu – and was pleasantly surprised by the range available. This convinced me that I had actually better try a dessert after all, and I managed to squeeze in a strawberry shortbread sundae!

The atmosphere in the pub remained lively, and everyone around us was clearly having a lovely time! There were many birthday celebrations happening and the restaurant provided balloons on each of the tables.  I was also pleased to overhear another group talking about how lovely their meal was and how nice the restaurant looked.

All things considered, the evening was fantastic from start to finish. The atmosphere was great; the menu was varied and good value. The staff were polite and friendly but not overbearing in any way. We have already said we will definitely go again, perhaps to try one of the specials nights, and bring our children next time.

Highly recommended.
