Browns Restaurant Liverpool is in a fantastic city centre location. On arrival we found the place to be absolutely booming. Despite usually being a good sign if a restaurant is busy my heart sank a little as it usually means waiting ages to get a drink never mind your food. However, this time I was gladly proved wrong!

We were met at the door by a welcoming member of staff and quickly shown to our seats. As we were walked round I noticed the décor was bright and modern with some fantastic pictures on the walls and the large windows made the place bright and airy despite being really busy. I noticed a wide range of people dining too; couples, groups of friends and families with children which to me is always a good sign.

Our waiter Oliver came over and introduced himself and took our drinks order, we chose a bottle of house white which was served quickly but not really cold enough for my liking, although it was left with us in an ice bucket which was a nice touch. The wine was light and crisp and pleasant to drink and did complement our food.

The menu was not vast but I like that in a restaurant so it wasn’t an issue for me. For starters I chose asparagus with poached egg and prosciutto ham while my husband chose the crab and avocado stack. The food was served quickly and by really happy helpful staff. The asparagus was perfectly cooked and the poached egg was fantastic. The hollandaise sauce was light and subtle which really complemented the dish. The crab and avocado stack was tasty and refreshing, there was plenty of crab and the dish was a perfect size.

In between courses Oliver was helpful and attentive, filling our wine glasses up when empty and making sure we had enough water etc.

For our main course I had crab and king prawn linguine while my husband chose the wild boar and chorizo burger. The linguine was perfectly cooked and packed full of taste! King prawns were plentiful which makes a nice change in a dish like this. I absolutely could not fault this dish! My husband is in agreement with the wild boar and chorizo burger too. He said it was perfectly cooked and one of the nicest burgers he has tasted. It came with skin on fries and side salad which were also very tasty.

It was safe to say that at this point we were both suitably full up! Oliver cleared our table and brought it back to order. He brought over the desert menu and told us to take our time and have a rest if we needed it. We were given just the right amount of time between courses to allow for food to settle and conversation to flow. The staff were attentive yet not overbearing and even engaging in light conversations and jokes.

The choices of desert were excellent and intriguing! I wanted to taste them all! When Oliver returned to take our order I settled on salted caramel profiteroles while the husband decided on his all-time favourite of sticky toffee pudding.

Well all I can say is what a way to end a meal!! These deserts were the absolute cherry on the cake. The salted caramel profiteroles were so light and delicious – I can honestly say they were the best I have ever tasted. The lime fudge sauce and homemade salted caramel were mouth-watering! Now my husband considers himself to be a bit of a sticky toffee pudding connoisseur so I wondered if it would live up to his expectations! It did. And then some; “The best I have tasted!” (direct quote!) The sponge was perfect, light and full of flavour and the sauce was an absolute dream. The ice cream was thick and creamy and perfect on the side.

Once we had finished Oliver cleared our table and took our drink order, drinks were served quickly despite the place still being so full. One of the managers, Henry, came over to check everything had been ok for us – was really nice talking about the restaurant and its location, you could see he had a genuine interest in the place.

So what’s my overall opinion of Browns Liverpool? It’s the perfect place to grab a light bite and a drink in the city rush or have a relaxed and excellently cooked and presented evening meal. The atmosphere is wonderful and the staff are brilliant. We had a really fantastic evening and will definitely be returning.

Would we recommend this place? Absolutely.

One of the easiest 5/5 I have ever given.
