Four adults and 1 child aged 12 visited the Captain’s Fish & Chips restaurant in Chessington World of Adventures yesterday for an early lunch.
The restaurant itself was spacious and set in a log cabin within the park opposite the Black Buccaneer Ride, not far from Bubble Works and the Vampire ride. There were both indoor and outdoor tables so you could eat at the restaurant or take the food away, your choice.
We arrived to be greeted by very friendly staff who were expecting us and were told a table had been reserved.
We chose our food from a very clear menu which was displayed both outside the restaurant and above the counter.
I of course love fish and chips so chose the cod meal as did my daughter, after first checking that there would be no bones in the cod. The men went for the Battered Sausage meal. There were also pies or chicken pieces for adults so there was plenty of choice for those who don’t like fish.
My granddaughter decided on a child’s chicken goujons meal. Each of our choices was served with chips and a drink. There were many accompaniments to choose from to go with the meal including mushy peas, pickled gherkins or pickled onions but I refrained!
We were given our drinks on ordering. Plastic cutlery was available from a cabinet as were straws, serviettes, salt, pepper and sugar etc… Large containers of salt and vinegar were on every table like we have in the fish & chips shop at home.
Our food was freshly cooked and arrived at our table piping hot. Lovely crisp batter on the cod, with plenty of chips underneath. Crispy batter, I love it!!! The cod was delicious too and Chessington proudly serve sustainably sourced fish as approved by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC). We were given plenty of sachets of ketchup, mayo and tartar sauce and I am sure they would have supplied more had we needed it.
The men told me the battered sausage was great, as were the chicken goujons which my granddaughter had. Nobody could finish the delicious hot chips, even my granddaughter who had decided to have a children’s meal! Very generous portions.
Prices were very reasonable too, my grandaughter’s meal was under £5 with the cod and chips meal being £7.50 and the battered sausage meal £6.50.
There is also a vegetarian option available with the Veggie Bake Meal Deal for £6.25. All meal deals are served with Chunky Chips and a regular soft drink.
I can thoroughly recommend this restaurant, it was far more peaceful in there than the usual crowded fast food places we have eaten at before in Chessington.
I would have to rate it 5 out of 5 for the location and delicious food.
Tickets for Chessington cost from £27pp by booking online in advance.
