CELIA Organic Lager Review

Reviewed by Amanda Hayes

Being keen on using organic produce wherever possible I was excited to be given the opportunity to try out CELIA Organic lager. CELIA is 100% organic, gluten & wheat free and brewed in the Bohemian region of the Czech Republic using locally sourced sand filtered water.

When it arrived I was really pleased with the clear, unfussy yet eye catching design and with both the labels front back and around the neck of the bottle clearly marked organic it would be plain to see on a supermarket shelf. It comes in a 330ml bottle and at only 136 calories per bottle you won’t feel guilty about your waistline as you drink it. When I poured it out I was surprised at the lack of bubbles, but I soon found out that is naturally carbonated and although still has a fizz whilst drinking does not leave you feel gassy and bloated like standard lagers.

The alcohol content is 4.5% and it does seem fairly strong as you drink it but that’s probably the bitter rather than sweet taste you commonly find. I certainly think that with just three ingredients, malted barley, hops & water from the Žatec foothills, you wouldn’t be suffering from the sort of hangover you can get from artificially produced beers.

CELIA is a premium lager but for an organic product I personally don’t think it comes with a premium price tag, in fact at around £2.00 a bottle in Waitrose at the moment it’s a great choice for anyone requiring a gluten free option.

CELIA is a lovely full bodied lager packed full of flavour perfect for drinking with grilled meats or fish. I highly recommend getting some in for the festive season especially if you have friends or family that have a gluten free diet.
