An extremely entertaining evening was had by all at Assembly Hall Theatre in Tunbridge Wells where the crowd was singing and toe tapping along to Chas and Dave.

Chas and Dave are on their “On The Road” tour bringing the audience a selection of 70’s and 80’s music. The stage set up is very simple with Chas, Dave and Chas’s son Nik on drums set against a black backdrop. Between the three of them they didn’t require anything else to get the crowd going. The first set is predominately tracks from the 70’s from their days playing pubs and clubs in the East End, even though the majority of the songs were not known by the crowd it didn’t it certainly didn’t diminish the electric atmosphere in the hall.

Both Chas and Dave’s voices came over as strong as ever and their enthusiasm and energy was unbelievable for two guys in their 70’s! Their seemingly effortless playing and relaxed style made you feel as though you were in a much smaller more intimate space.

The second half begins with tracks from their new album, That’s What Happens, and finishes with all their 80’s hits, Snooker Loopy, Rabbit, and Ain’t No Pleasing You. By this time the crowd were up dancing, singing and clapping and generally having a great laugh. Never have I seen a band on stage having so much fun and this was infectious, drawing the audience in. I got the feeling that the set is not the same every night, as they often conferred about what song to do next and got the audience shouting in with suggestions.

You don’t need to know all the tracks to enjoy Chas and Dave, you just need a good sense of fun, it’s a fantastic night out for young and old, couples or groups. Perfect coming up to the Christmas party season.

We saw Chas and Dave at Assembly Hall Theatre where the acoustics are great, and there is no bad place to sit. Everyone gets a good view due to the layout and there is even room for dancing! There is a well-stocked bar, easy access for the disabled and the less mobile and ample parking right next door. All in all a great fun night out at a great local venue.

Rating: 5/5 thumbs_up
