This weekend myself and my husband have been to the Award Winning Pan Asian Chino Latino restaurant and cocktail bar which is located on the 1st floor of the Park Plaza Hotel in Leeds City Centre.

This is the first time either of us have been to a Pan Asian restaurant so we were looking forward to trying the food (I had already had a nosey at their menu online).

As soon as we arrived we were made to feel very welcome by the staff who checked our reservation and offered to take our coats. We were asked if we would like to be taken straight to our seats or if we would like to get a drink from the bar, we decided to go and check out the cocktail menu first. There was a very good selection of cocktails and we were told that if there was nothing that took our fancy we could have our own cocktail made, my husband couldn’t decide which to have so he asked them to surprise him, the barman made him a Margarita with his own twist which tasted lovely, I decided on the Grenadilla, it looked and tasted absolutely amazing.

We sat down to enjoy our cocktails and have a little look around. The décor is very impressive, simple but clean and contemporary with nice subtle lighting and music playing. After a couple of minutes we decided to go into the restaurant area, we were immediately shown to our table which had a window view, although we didn’t feel like we were on show as they had curtains and voile to give it that element of privacy. The kitchen was open too which is nice as you could see the chefs cooking the meals.

We were handed the menu and asked if we would like any drinks while we ordered. They explained the menu to us and gave us a card which explained the menu wording (i.e. Tempura means battered), this was very useful and helped us decide which dishes we were going to order. The menu isn’t a traditional starter/main/dessert like many other restaurants and the dishes come in 2 sizes (small and large), they explained that this gives us the choice to make the meal what we want it to be as we could order a large dish each as a main or order a couple of smaller dishes each to make it more into a tapas style meal which would give us the chance to share everything and try more of their dishes.

After a few minutes our waiter came to take our order, we decided to go for the Beef Fillet Salad (£7), Chicken Tempura (£5), Chicken Wings Inside Out (5.95), Malaysian chicken breast (14.95) and Sirloin Steak on hot rocks which is one of their signature dishes (£11). I also asked if we could have rice with the Malaysian Chicken and our waiter recommended Corriander, Lime and Egg Fried Rice (£3). We also ordered a bottle of Chenin Blanc which was brought to our table immediately, poured for us and placed in an ice bucket at the side of our table.

It didn’t take long for the food to be served to us, firstly was the Beef Fillet Salad which was presented amazingly and tasted absolutely gorgeous, it had a nice chilli kick to it too. The chicken tempura shortly followed which was cooked to perfection, this was closely followed by amazing looking chicken wings which were also cooked to perfection with the meat just falling off the bone. Then came the Malaysian Chicken with the rice to accompany it and the Sirloin steak. We were really impressed with the sirloin steak as we were told when we ordered it that it would be cooked perfectly to our own individual taste, it was brought out on a bed of charcoal rocks and the waitress poured a small bowl of soya sauce over it which activated the rocks and sent it sizzling and cooking away, the smell was out of this world. I started eating the Malaysian Chicken with the rice (which did compliment it perfectly thank you to our waiter for recommending this). Once the steak had cooked just the way we liked it I decided to try a little bit, I’m a huge chicken fan and very rarely eat steak so I shocked myself and my husband when I tasted it and said that it was gorgeous and was my favourite dish that night.

After we had finished our meal we were asked if we would like the dessert menu, my husband isn’t a huge dessert fan so we decided to get a dessert to share (I say share but I mean he has a small taste and I eat the rest), they all looked very tempting but I decided in the end to go for the Cheesecake (£6.75), this came out quickly and was really lovely, it was just the right portion size too.

We had a really lovely night at Chino Latino and were made to feel very welcome by all the staff.  It is a gorgeous restaurant in a fantastic central location which offers amazingly presented high quality food. I would definitely recommend Chino Latino to anyone who would like to be wined and dined and sample amazing tasting food. It’s clear to see why they are an award winning restaurant.
