The most amazing meal was had by myself, my super fussy partner and even fussier 7 year old (my 6 month old was also thrown in for good measure!) at Chop Chop Haymarket in Edinburgh. When we arrived we were given a window seat which was perfect as lots of room for our pram and a high chair. The restaurant was a bit dated looking on the outside but on the inside it was lovely without being ultra-modern or old fashioned and all areas looked clean including the toilets which were well stocked and fresh smelling.

Chop Chop is different to any Chinese restaurant that we’ve ever been to before and the manager explained traditionally dishes are just eaten when they were ready and therefore not necessarily in order. His knowledge of the dishes was great and gave some great suggestions. We decided on some of their famous dumplings in both chicken and spicy beef, which were out of this world. They came dry and you made your own sauce from soy sauce, garlic, chilli flakes and an oil.

We also chose a chicken chow mein dish which was nothing like I’d ever tasted before and just amazing, some plain noodles which were made in a local factory using only flour and water (which my 7 year old absolutely demolished and said they were the best noodles he’d ever had – take it from me that means they were good!!). I chose a slow cooked beef dish which I will remember forever. It was the tenderest piece of meat I’ve ever eaten and honestly just melted in my mouth. As if that wasn’t enough we had (as suggested by the manager) a selection of spicy potatoes and vegetables and fried green beans with garlic which were equally as amazing and honestly a meal within themselves.

Not surprising but we didn’t have any dessert considering the main meal we had eaten but the dessert dumplings that they offered sounded delicious.

We both signed up for a free membership scheme where we both receive discounts on meals all year round and some vouchers on special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries. For the quality and quantity of portion the value for money was amazing and was not overly priced in any way.

I can’t rate this restaurant enough and my mouth waters when writing this review. I’ve recommended this restaurant to all my family and friends and couldn’t give the service, price and quality any less than 5 out of 5.

Rating: 5/5 thumbs_up
