Comic Art Prints
Reviewed by David Savage
I recently received 2 prints from Comic Art – one featuring Gnasher (from Dennis the Menace) and the other a Spitfire scene.
These are both high quality screen prints on heavy duty cotton paper.
Gnasher Gnashes features Dennis the Menace’s dog Gnasher showing his teeth on a vivid red background. Measures 25x19cm and is signed and numbered (76/200) in pencil by the printer, John Patrick Reynolds.
Spitfire features a British spitfire being chased by 3 German Messerschmitt 109s. This is a black and white print with splashes on vivid red on the spitfire. Measures 25x19cm and is signed and numbered (19/200) in pencil by the printer, John Patrick Reynolds.
These make wonderful pieces of art to hang on the wall. I received unframed versions which suit me better as I can then get frames to match other pictures on my wall but you can purchase them already framed.
The Comic Art website has over 60 screen prints from popular comics such as The Beano and Dandy as well as Commando and Teen Romance prints.
The cost is rather high from between £40 (smallest size 25x19cm) to £300 (largest size 76x58cm) and can be purchased framed or unframed but the quality of the paper and print is of a high quality so are worth paying the extra for and all are signed and numbered (in pencil so not to distract from the actual image as it would if signed in a dark pen).
The unframed versions I received were sent in a hardbacked envelope with each print wrapped in tissue paper to protect them so well packed.
Overall, I love both pieces and will be hanging on my bedroom wall very soon. Both are well drawn and of a high standard.
These would make an excellent gift for comic lovers with plenty of designs to choose from.
Prices from £40 to £300.
