My partner and I went to see the gripping Danny and the Deep Blue Sea at the Old Red Lion Theatre in Angel, Islington recently.

Situated in the heart of Islington, London the Old Red Lion is a lovely traditional pub and the cosy, but comfortable theatre is situated on the first floor of this pub. The theatre is less than 5 minutes by walk from Angel tube station and easily reachable through several bus routes. The intimate size of this theatre makes you feel one with the show and the artists. You are allowed to take your beverages from the pub to the theatre to enjoy whilst watching the show.

The show started right on time and both artists Megan Lloyd-Jones and Gareth O’Connor, playing Roberta and Danny, grip you from the very first couple of minutes. The story is about Roberta and Danny, two people who have fallen through hard times in life. They meet in a New York City bar and although there is a lot of arguments and disagreements between them, there is also a spark and sympathy they feel for each other. They get to know each other better and fall for each other. The story is deeply affecting and explosive study of alienation and power of love. The want and need to be understood, heard, loved and accepted is articulated beautifully by the artists in this play.

Performed by extremely talented artists, this play projects hope and optimism in a sea of despair and depression.
