Before receiving the Dr Brown’s gift set, I had overheard the assistant in my local pharmacy advising a fellow mum to try them for her colicky baby.

Dr Brown’s bottles have been specially designed so a vacuum is not created in the bottles during feeding, thus reducing symptoms of colic in babies. They have won numerous awards, voted for by mums and are free from Bisphenol-A (BPA), PVC, lead and phthalates.

The Deluxe Newborn Gift Set contains a steam steriliser, tongs, bottle brush, three 240ml bottles, two 120ml bottles, storage/travel caps, two level – two teats (for babies 3-6 months) and two level three teats (6 months plus).

Steriliser:
My previous steam steriliser was too large for my microwave so I was having to cold water steriliser my bottles with chemicals which took 15 minutes. The steriliser contained in the gift set fitted in my microwave so I was able to steam my bottles in just 6 minutes (for higher powered microwaves this can take just 2 minutes!). You can fit in four bottles and teats and there is a comprehensive instruction booklets which even has handy diagrams on how place the bottles in the unit and tongs to remove items whilst they are still hot.

Bottle cleaner:
Bottle cleaning brush has a sucker to the base so it can be stored upright by the sink. I liked the fact that the brush can cleaned on the top rack of the dishwasher, this reassured me that I am able to get rid of any germs that may stay on the brush.

Bottles:
I had found with other makes of bottles my eager little one (6 weeks) managed to suck so hard the teat was inverted into the bottle. He also often spluttered when bottle feeding due to bubbles being created. The design of the Dr Browns bottles meant that this did not happen, my little one could guzzle away happily. I did see a difference after using the bottles, my little one did not have as much gas and seemed much happier than he had been when I used other brands of bottles. Two level-2 and two level-3 teats are included in the set for a faster flow as baby gets older.

I think this set would make an excellent gift for any expectant mums and thoroughly recommend Dr Browns bottles.
