Easter at The London Eye

Eggsellent Easter at the EDF Energy London Eye

The London Eye offers arts and crafts for family fun this Easter

London, April 2012: This Easter, the EDF Energy London Eye is inviting guests to London’s most iconic landmark to join in the fun with this year’s free* on-site Easter arts and crafts activities.

From Friday 6th to Monday 9th April, families can don their creative caps and get involved in the London Eye’s Easter activities. Children can get busy with a number of crafts, decorating papier maché eggs and Easter animal masks. A host of arts materials and a splash of imagination will ensure the Easter creations are brought to life to be taken home and cherished as Easter keepsakes.

In addition, families can join in the ultimate egg decorating egg-stravaganza at the EDF Energy London Eye. Five giant white eggs will be installed on the London Eye’s landscape from Friday 31st March to Sunday 15th April when everyone will be invited to take part in transforming them into egg-stravagant and colourful Easter eggs. All guests to the South Bank and the London Eye landscape can pick up free multi-coloured stickers in a range of sizes to fix onto the enormous eggs, so that they can enjoy being part of the London Eye’s first collective egg decoration.

For those who wish to steer clear of glue and glitter, visitors can sit on the top deck of the London Eye River Cruise and appreciate the spring sunshine whilst on the 40 minute cruise on the River Thames. With fascinating live commentary that brings the city to life, guests can enjoy the warm Easter breeze, which offers the opportunity to experience London’s South Bank from a different perspective.

Having taken in the spectacular views of London on the river cruise, guests can also indulge in some springtime splendour with the Afternoon Tea Capsule on the EDF Energy London Eye. A perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the capital, the Afternoon Tea Capsule is ideal for families and groups of friends who want to grasp London’s panoramic views from 135 metres above the city. The Afternoon Tea Capsule includes a variety of delicious sandwiches, freshly baked scones and scrumptious cakes, served by the host with a selection of teas, coffee and fruit juices.

For those who have yet to visit the EDF Energy London Eye in 2012, they will find a new in-capsule experience aboard the London Eye. Capsules are now complete with state of the art Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 devices, displaying bespoke content. The interactive touch screen guides enhance the guest experience as they take in the crisp springtime views from the world’s tallest cantilevered observation wheel. It provides a more interactive way to take in the capital’s best sights and is available as part of the standard ticket price. Features include key information on landmarks that can be seen from the London Eye as well as a 3D view of each sight, further bringing it to life before the visitors’ eyes. Innovative, 360 degree non-stop-24-hour filming has granted the EDF Energy London Eye and its guests the first ever multi-dimensional views of the spectacular sights of the capital.

EDF Energyis one of the UK’s largest energy companies and the largest producer of low-carbon electricity, producing around one-fifth of the nation's electricity from its nuclear, coal and gas power stations, as well as combined heat and power plants and wind farms. The company supplies gas and electricity to more than 5.5 million business and residential customers and is the biggest supplier of electricity by volume in the UK.

EDF Energy’s safe and secure operation of its eight existing nuclear power stations at sites across the country makes it the UK’s largest generator of low carbon electricity. EDF Energy is also leading the UK's nuclear renaissance and has published plans to build four new nuclear plants, subject to the right investment framework. These new plants could generate enough low carbon electricity for about 40% of Britain’s homes. They would make an important contribution to the UK’s future needs for clean, secure and affordable energy. The project is already creating business and job opportunities for British companies and workers.

Through Our Sustainability Commitments, EDF Energy has launched one of the biggest environmental and social programmes of any British energy company. EDF is the official energy utilities partner and sustainability partner of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The company is also helping its customers and others use energy more sustainably through products and initiatives such as Team Green Britain, smart meters and electric vehicle research.

EDF Energy is part of EDF Group, one of Europe’s largest power companies. The company employs around 15,000 people at locations across the UK.
