Ed’s Easy Diner is a new addition to Bridges Shopping Centre in the heart of Sunderland’s City Centre. It is very accessible to parking facilities (Bridges car park), bus routes, and the Metro. Upon entering the diner we were greeted by a very friendly host who gave us the option of sitting at either a booth, or at the counter – we decided to go for the more comfortable option of the booth. All the staff were really attentive and friendly, without being pushy.

Ed’s Easy Diner is themed as a 1950’s American Diner – imagine the diner from Back to the Future and you get a pretty good idea of what it’s like. The music is all from this time period, and you can even select your own songs from a jukebox at your table for 20p per song with all the proceeds going to charity. It’s a very family friendly restaurant – there were a number of families in with young children, which the staff were only too happy to accommodate. I noticed one family who were able store their buggy out back until they finished their meal which I was impressed with.

We started with a milkshake which was amazing! It came in a metal mug which helped keep it cool. The only regret was we got this before our meal came and not after as because you got so much it was more like a desert. We got burgers for our main course which came with chips, onion rings and coleslaw. The burgers were so tasty and all ingredients were really fresh. I had the chilly burger which I would highly recommend.

For desert (which really was pushing our stomachs – we both couldn’t finish it as you got a lot of food with your main!)I had the waffles and my partner had the brownie. The brownies and waffle were both served hot, and accompanied with the ice cream tasted great, and again huge portions!

I thought the pricing of the meal was quite reasonable – getting the Ed’s plate special for the main was about £11 each, the milkshake (which there is easily enough to share between 2) was £4, and the desserts £4.95 each.

The only negative is the toilets are not separated into gender, unfortunately when I used the facilities a man had been in before and… well you can imagine… it wasn’t left in a female friendly way!

Overall I would give this restaurant 4.5/5. The only reason it’s not a 5/5 is the toilets, but everything else was brilliant (the food, atmosphere and service) and would thoroughly recommend this to my friends, and would definitely go back myself.

Rating: 4.5/5
