I frequently use beans and pulses when cooking so I was happy to receive the mixed beans from Epicures ‘Creative Cooks’ range.
I am a busy mother of three small children and tend to use tinned beans rather than fresh as they are significantly convenient, I have never seen beans packaged in a bag/ box until now. I was pleasantly surprised to cut open the bag and realize there was no need to drain or wash before adding to my food.
The first mix I tried was the Rustic Bean Mix which I used in a Mexican tomato soup, usually I would use a can of Cannellini beans so it was great to have the variety of several beans without having to open many different tins and potentially waste the leftovers.
The Mediterranean Bean Mix was my favorite, I put these into a simple Tuna salad and can honestly say I was delighted to experience a true taste of the Mediterranean, it had just the right balance of olive oil and seasoning and I didn’t feel the need to add any additional dressing to my salad.
Finally the Tuscan Bean Mix with Pearl Barley was again used in a soup, it was ideal to pop in a winter broth without requiring any preparation.
Overall I was very impressed with the high quality of these products, I had never heard of Epicure before but will certainly look out for it on the supermarket shelf. Both the 100% natural ingredients and practicality of the product make it a definite winner in my house and I look forward to trying them with some of the recipes provided on the back of the boxes.

Beans is beans, some people like them and some people hate them. If you do like them then these pre-packed bean mixes can surely be a worthy addition to your kitchen cupboards. Ready to go straight from the pack they can be conveniently added to many a dish or even leftovers to bulk them out at the last minute.
We tried these in with a stew as well as a good batch of chilli with some really good results. They can even be used in salads or cold dishes too as they're ready prepared.
Various different bean combinations available all of which I think would go down very well with a little imagination in the kitchen.
Price may be a little higher than the various tinned options that are available but for utter convenience I would definitely recommend this product.
