My sister and I visited the Regent Theatre in Stoke to see Fame the Musical.

We set off in plenty of time as we had not visited this theatre before and wasn’t sure where to go. However we had no problems finding it as it was very well signposted and we found a nearby pay and display car park which was just a couple of minutes walk from the theatre entrance. The car park was very reasonable at only £2 after 6pm for the night.

Once inside the theatre we were greeted by friendly, helpful staff who gave us our tickets and showed us which way to go. The interior of the theatre was clean with a traditional theatre decor.

After having a drink in the bar we went to find our seats. We were sat in the stalls on row J and had a very good view of the stage (although looking around at the other seats I’m sure they all had a good view of the stage). We had ample leg room and the theatre was well air conditioned. As we had arrived at the theatre a bit early we had chance to read the programme that we had purchased for a reasonable £3.50 from one of the many members of staff. The programme was of good quality and full of information about the theatre, upcoming shows and of course Fame – including pictures of the cast, and the background information about each cast member.

The show is based on the 1980 musical film Fame. This modernised version is based at the high school of performing arts in New York where young talented hopefuls undertake the journey of their lives. The stage has a simple set of 2 staircases which are rotated throughout the performance and a platform above which the band performs on.

As soon as the show starts it has you gripped with the beautiful singing and amazing choreography.

Jodie Steele does an amazing job playing Carmen Diaz. She has an incredible voice and the dance moves to match!

A very funny number (although a little x rated!) was by Joseph Giacone who plays Joe Vegas! Myself and the rest of the audience were in fits of laughter when he started singing ‘can’t keep it down’ – BRILLIANT!

At the end of the show the audience are encouraged to stand up and join in with clapping, dancing and singing! This was lots of fun and a great end to a brilliant performance!

The Regent Theatre in Stoke was easy to access with ample parking nearby. I will definitely be returning to see more shows here. I would recommend everyone to go and watch Fame, I would love to take my daughter back to see it!

I give the Regent Theatre Stoke and the performance of Fame 5/5!
