Yesterday (Saturday 5 August 2017), we went along to the Summer Family Open Day at The Hawth in Crawley. Showcasing the best entertainment they have to offer it promised to be a fun and informative afternoon.
On arrival, we straightaway saw some fairground rides suitable for small children, a bouncy castle and heard music playing. Our four-year-old wanted to explore further and is drawn to music so headed over to see what was going on. We found they were giving DJ lessons to children large and small. This was a huge crowd pleaser with two very interesting teachers showing the children how to mix music on two decks and several microphones available for those who wanted to sing along.
Inside the theatre we easily found a programme of events which was extremely diverse. Starting at 12pm right through until 5pm there was a huge selection of activities to enjoy. From book readings to dance lessons, craft work to short films there was something for every age group and it is all free of charge. We are regular visitors to The Hawth, but hadn’t seen or heard about the dance studio, for instance so it was an excellent way to try out something you may not be sure of.
The activities are roughly split into age groups, so you can easily find a taster session suitable for your family member. We watched keep fit, card making, painting, a book signing and heard Snow White sing all in about an hour of being there. You can join in as much or as little as you like, there is something for everyone. The bar and restaurant was open and diners where being entertained by live musicians throughout the afternoon. It is a wonderful way to show all the activities in one day and we thought it was a brilliant idea.
I really recommend a trip to the Family Open day, I am sure you will be surprised just how much The Hawth has to offer children and adults alike.
