I was lucky to receive the Colour Changing Cinema Lightbox from Firebox to review. I’ve always fancied one of the light boxes that I’ve seen people using to count down to special events but thought the novelty of them might wear off after a few days.
This lightbox is quite different as it’s easy to create different effects due to the colour changing aspect. The description on Firebox states that the lightbox can be set to neutral white, a choice of six static colours or cycle through colours. I can only get it to stay on white, or constantly cycle through the colours so I’m not sure whether the description on Firebox is incorrect, as the packaging mentions nothing about it either. We seem to prefer having it cycling through all the colours anyway.
We received it just before Halloween, so of course we had to write ‘Happy Halloween’ on 2 out of the 3 available lines. There are 120 black letters, numbers and symbols to choose from so it was a doddle creating the words we wanted. My daughter also insisted on putting in symbols of a bone, balloons, batman, a pumpkin, and a poo. Yes… a poo emoji! The letters and symbols are really easy to just slide in and the effect when the light is switched on is awesome.
The lightbox is A4 size, but I found it only just fitted the word ‘Halloween’ with the ends of the letter tiles hanging off, so I would imagine the same issue will arise with the word ‘Christmas’. It’s not too much bother though because the letter tiles are clear, so you can’t see them hanging off the sides of the box.
The lightbox is battery powered and it does need 6 x 1.5V AA batteries that aren’t included. A 5v micro USB cable is included as an alternative way of powering it. I’m not sure how long the batteries are likely to last but we’ve had it on more or less constantly throughout the day and evening for a week now and they’re showing no sign of wearing out.
It’s a fantastic light box, and would make an awesome Christmas gift for anyone of any age. My 5-year-old daughter is just as impressed with it as my 10-year-old nephew and 34-year-old me! The packaging is nice and simple, and it came well packed with bubble wrap protection in a Firebox branded delivery box.
