Myself, my daughter and two granddaughters (11 and 15) visited Frankie & Benny’s in the Bloomfield Shopping Centre and Retail Park, Barrow-in-Furness on Tuesday 18 August 2015 at 3.30pm to try out their newly launched menu. The Bloomfield Shopping Centre is very easy to find and very central. There is a large car park for patrons on Frankie & Benny’s which is free for 3 hours.
When we arrived we were quickly shown to our table, asked which drinks we would like and given menus for both the adults and the children. We were advised at this point that standard soft drinks (Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, R Whites Lemonade or Tango Orange) cost £2.65 but you do get unlimited refills. We also had coffee which was refillable – excellent value.
Both children chose their food from the juniors menu which costs £7.75 for a main course, dessert and soft drink. There is also a £4.25 menu for younger children and organic baby food available for babies from 7 months. One granddaughter chose the margarita pizza and the other chose the ribs and chips, both enjoyed them immensely and their plates were cleared!
For starters I chose Risotto Cakes, Golden-crumbed mushrooms and risotto cakes with rocket, Neapolitan sauce and a wedge of lemon for £6.45 and my daughter chose Prawn Cocktail for £6.25. My oldest granddaughter chose Garlic and Cheese mushrooms for £5.95. These arrived fairly quickly; the risotto cakes and prawn cocktail were delicious and soon devoured. The garlic and cheese mushrooms were tasty, however, just a bit too much herbs added for our taste buds.
Choosing from the main course menu was extremely difficult as all choices sounded delicious. I finally decided on the mixed grill with baked potato (£20.95) and my daughter chose with the 8oz Sirloin Steak with fries (£16.95). I have to be honest and say that I was disappointed in the mixed grill; the steak was so tough that I had to leave it. I had asked for it to be cooked ‘medium’. In my opinion it was not worth the hefty price charged. My daughter felt that the sirloin was tough also, and equally not worth the price.
The children chose Ice cream brownies and Ice cream sundae as their desserts and thoroughly enjoyed them.
The staff were cheerful, friendly and very helpful. One member of staff in particular stood out as being prepared, if necessary, to go the extra mile – Brogan.
Overall, the staff, surroundings and atmosphere were fabulous but the main courses unfortunately let them down and were rather overpriced.
