My son and I love nothing better than going out for lunch. Most of the time, just the two of us, it is like a mini date. We sit and chat, no phones, tablets, gadgets and games. It is our time, and we love it. We were very excited to be invited to review the new menu at Frankie & Benny’s, and popped along to the Morecambe restaurant to do just that.
Frankie & Benny’s has that kitch retro diner feel, booth seating and Italian American inspired food which just screams EAT ME! The new menu which has just recently been launched is extensive, so extensive it took me a good 15 minutes to read through everything and choose what to have. I was overwhelmed with choice, from pizza and calzone, stuffed with mac and cheese and pulled pork, to burgers towering high with numerous toppings that only covered a smidge of the menu. Pasta, grills, fish, even breakfasts and more – there is actually something for every palate, but still keeping with the American diner feel. The food is most certainly comfort food. The saying is stick to your ribs food. And, oh yes it is!
With menus available for those with gluten intolerances as well, the staff are happy to advise on what is best for those on a gluten free diet, or any other dietary requirement. There are also extensive drinks menus including cocktails and milkshakes and of course, the deserts too! There is also a set lunch menu with smaller portions and special offers on which runs during the day if you do not fancy something so big.
Nathan ordered from the children’s menu, a build your own burger, with a double beef burger, cheese, mayo and pineapple. It was huge! He managed to eat it all, and the fries and beans, but was so stuffed he actually surprised the staff by saying he was too full for pudding as the burger was so good! I think it was the first time they have ever seen a child turn down ice cream.
For me, I chose the Steak and Fries, a 7oz rump steak, served with a bag, and I actually mean a bag, of fries, on the side, and the choice of peppercorn sauce or garlic butter. I opted for the garlic butter, which could have seen more garlic for my taste, but then, I do love garlic! Served on a wooden board, it was cooked to perfection and the fries were prefect and crispy, too.
The menu items were of a price range between £5 – £20, so affordable for most family outings. Nathan loved his build a burger and said he would love to go again. I would also go back, but maybe on an evening for a later dinner, as the atmosphere is great there.
