Myself, my daughter and two granddaughters (11 and 15) visited Frankie & Benny’s in Morecambe on Monday 25 May 2015 to try out their lunch menu which is available Monday to Friday between 11am and 5.30pm. I live in Heysham which is 3 miles from Morecambe and therefore knew where the restaurant was, however, it would be fairly easy to find as it is on Central Drive next to Morecambe Railway station. There is a large car park and being situated so centrally it is the perfect meeting place. Their great value lunch menu offers a variety of main courses costing between £5.95 and £7.95, with the addition of a starter or dessert for just £2.50 each. Standard soft drinks (Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, R Whites Lemonade or Tango Orange) cost £2.65 but you do get unlimited refills. My two granddaughters never seem to have enough soft drinks so I found this a superb bonus!

When we arrived we were quickly shown to our table, asked which drinks we would like and given menus for both the adults and the children. Being a bank holiday weekend, the restaurant was reasonably busy but the service was excellent.

Both children chose their food from the juniors menu which costs £7.75 for a main course, dessert and soft drink. There is also a £4.25 menu for younger children and organic baby food available for babies from 7 months. One granddaughter chose the margarita pizza and the other chose the hot dogs, both enjoyed them immensely and their plates were cleared!

For starters I chose crispy coated chicken strips, and my daughter chose the garlic mushrooms. As there were no starters included in the junior menu we also asked for starter of garlic bread for the children (which of course we would pay for). These arrived fairly quickly, were really tasty and it wasn’t long before all the plates were empty!!

Choosing from the main course menu was extremely difficult as all choices sounded delicious. I finally decided on the New Yorker calzone and my daughter chose the Spaghetti Carbonara. The Calzone was full of meat – pepperoni, ham, bacon, mushrooms as well as melted mozzarella, then topped with a Neapolitan sauce and was extremely tasty. My daughter said that her spaghetti carbonara was mouth-watering with lots of streaky bacon, sautéed mushrooms and a delicious cheese sauce, accompanied with a portion of fries.

The staff were cheerful, friendly and very helpful. One member of staff was asking customers to support the local charity. For £2 you could pick from the ‘lucky dip’ which consisted of all sorts of different goodies. My daughter and I bought one each and ended up with a free starter and a free desert. The eldest granddaughter was really pleased as she loves her deserts and could pick what she wanted. She opted for the cheesecake which in her words ‘melted in your mouth’. It also meant that we didn’t need to pay for the garlic bread that we had ordered as a starter for the children.

I had asked the youngest granddaughter , Leah to review the ice cream candy shop. I’m not quite sure if she thought she had to go somewhere but she didn’t seem keen. However, once it arrived, not only her but all of us were really impressed! It was served in a wooden crate and alongside the bowl of ice cream were 3 mini bottle style jars containing jelly tots, mini Smarties and chocolate sprinkles. It also had a small dish of marshmallow and some popping candy – at only £1.95 on top of the junior/children’s menu it was great value for money.

When I asked Leah what she thought about it, she responded ‘that it was absolutely brilliant. Two scoops of vanilla ice cream and lots of sweets and some chocolate sauce – wow!! There were too many sweeties for the ice cream but I found a candy striped bag in the wooden tray so I took some of the sweets home for later……….’

Overall, we had an amazing lunch at Frankie & Benny’s in Morecambe, excellent staff and great food and definitely value for money. We will definitely be visiting again.
