Frankie & Benny’s New Breakfast Menu Kirkby Liverpool Review

Reviewed by Pete Allen

At 9.30 today I visited Frankie & Benny’s, Kirkby, to sample their new breakfast menu. Although it states Kirkby, it was situated right next to the Showcase Cinema off the East Lancashire Road A580 which is not really Kirby. It’s simple to get to and has plenty of parking.

On arrival I was greeted by Sharon, the waitress/manager of the day. Having been to several F&B restaurants now I must say Sharon was by far the most pleasant and happy worker I have come across. The store already had several customers inside, happily tucking into their morning wares. Sharon took us to our table and supplied us the morning breakfast menus whilst taking our drinks order. We were asked what we wished to drink and were given plenty of choice of teas, coffees and specialty drinks including Lattes / Cappuccinos etc. We both opted for a flavored Latte which soon turned up piping hot. Drinks are offered at £1.95 for unlimited top ups, including the specialty lattes / cappuccinos.

The new breakfast menu was exciting, from lighter choices like fruit and yogurt and bruschetta to the full Monty hard hitting Papa Grande breakfast. Feeling particularly hungry this day, I opted for the Papa Grande big one whilst my colleague choose the Stateside Stacker, freshly baked rosemary bread filled with a potato rosti, cheese, sausage patty, bacon, fried egg and tomato ketchup.

Whilst waiting for the food to arrive I visited the toilets to check how clean they were and was pleased to find them in a very clean and tidy state.

When the meals arrived I was in awe of the portion sizes on offer. My Papa Grande was served piping hot and consisted of two sausages, four rashers of bacon, black pudding, two eggs, grilled tomato, button mushrooms, beans, potato rosti and crispy herb potatoes and the usual toast and butter. All this whilst in lovely surroundings listening to Mr Bublé in the background.

The meal was simply gorgeous with its crispy American bacon and garlic flavoured herb potatoes. As we ate, Sharon remained in our service and brought fresh drinks to our table. I must say, as I ate my meal I was quite jealous of my colleagues sandwich which looked mouthwatering.

I’m a good eater but unfortunately I couldn’t manage the full breakfast put before me that day. For £9.95 it’s on the more expensive side but it is the stores “signature” male dominated breakfast item. If you’re not that hungry then you could always opt for one of the regular breakfasts like the Smashed Avocado, Pancakes, Waffles, Veggie Breakfast, Eggs Benedict plus more, all priced at £5.95. When you base this on a local café breakfast at £5.00 with a “mug” of tea. I’m sure this would knock the spots off any of your favourite café’s for a couple of quid more……… and you get unlimited hot drinks /specialty drinks.

I’m a big fan of helpful staff in a restaurant and I enjoy my meal more when there are pleasant and attentive staff within the premises. I would recommend F&B to anyone who fancies a nice breakfast / brunch and especially this one here near the Showcase. Sharon was a wonderful host and it was a pleasure of a restaurant to visit.
