Sky secures rights to Glee star Matthew Morrison’s London Concert

Sky has secured the exclusive UK broadcast rights to GLEE actor Matthew Morrison’s live tour film recorded at London’s HMV Hammersmith Apollo in June this year. Morrison, who plays glee club director William Schuester on the Sky 1 HD series, performed a series of tracks from his self-titled debut album, plus a variety of 'mash-ups' from popular GLEE songs including Sway, Golddigger and Somewhere Over The Rainbow and will be screened as a one hour special Matthew Morrison Live at the Hammersmith Apollo.

Commenting on the deal, Louisa Forsyth, Acquisitions Manager, Entertainment, Sky said: “The one-hour special will bring GLEEks and Matthew’s fans a real treat during the third series’ pre-emptions. We love GLEE as much as our customers, so we’re thrilled to be able to bring them this exclusive tour film of Matthew on stage in London.”

Matthew Morrison commented: “My performance at the Hammersmith Apollo was a night that I will never forget as long as I live. This was the first time I have performed in front of a huge audience as myself, not as a character. I was so moved by the support I received from everyone in London, which fed me the energy for an incredible night.”

Morrison performed selections from the album including the recently released single Summer Rain and Still Got Tonight, co-written by former American Idol winner Kris Allen and featured in the New York-themed season two finale of GLEE.

Morrison recently released his self-titled debut album which includes duets with Sir Elton John, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Sting. He has received an Emmy nomination and two Golden Globe nominations for his role in the Sky 1 series, GLEE.. He was also nominated for a Tony Award for his role in Light in the Piazza.

GLEE is nothing short of a pop culture phenomenon. The series follows an optimistic teacher at McKinley High (WILL SCHUESTER played by Matthew Morrison) as he tries to inspire a group of oddball teenagers to realize their true star potential and restore the school's show choir, New Directions, to its former glory. Hampering Will’s musical ambitions at every turn is nemesis, SUE SYLVESTER (Golden Globe® winner Jane Lynch), the conniving cheerleading coach of The Cheerios, who this season takes her anti-Glee campaign to a whole new level as she runs for Congress on a 'no arts' platform – to put a stop to glee clubs nationwide, not just the New Directions.

Matthew Morrison Live at the Hammersmith Apollo will air on Sky 1 HD and Sky 1 on Thursday 13 October, 2011 at 9.00pm.  The tour film was exec produced by Matthew Morrison and Eric Podwall. Matthew’s self-titled record is available on Mercury Records. www.sky.com/glee. www.matthewmorrison.com.
