I was really lovely to go back to my home-town for the weekend and to be to go and watch Grease with my husband while we were there at the Edinburgh Playhouse.

The show opened with headmistresses voice welcoming us to Rydell High and then the music started, the main characters on the stage were performing and then the rest of the cast appeared in the aisles also singing and dancing (they also ended the show this way).

I enjoyed watching the film so was looking forward to seeing it on stage, the cast were all young as it was an amateur production so I was a bit unsure what to expect but their age did not have any impact on the show at all – they were confident, brilliant and very enthusiastic – their dancing, singing and acting were good and they had the audience singing along and tapping their toes.

The first half of the show was slow to start with much like in the film but the second half definitely made up for it. The only negative I would say was that there wasn’t much in the way of stage /props/special effects for the cast to work with.

Both me and my husband said that the cast member that played Sandy really stood out – she had a beautiful voice and her acting and dancing were really good, she did an amazing job at playing the lead role.

We both really enjoyed watching the show and would recommend it.

Rating: 4/5
