Haven Holiday Park
Rockley Park, Dorset

As my son would say, Wowser Bowser, what a weekend did we have!
For Jubilee weekend I was keen to take my 7 year old somewhere where he would remember, you know for those times when you want to remember where you were? The weather wasn’t looking great so a caravan park where we always have tons of fun was a great option. In our household, caravan holidays are considered awesome; where else can you catch a few days away and just get stuck in as soon as you arrive? As we’re no strangers to caravanning I was looking forward to checking this place out.
We arrived at Rockley Park in Dorset a good four hours earlier than our check in time, but thankfully reception let us in to use the amenities so we could book Jamie’s sports schedule straight away – we’ve learnt before that booking activities upon arrival is essential…
The park itself is very well presented and maintained – the grounds are immaculate and the indoor facilities clean and tidy. We were situated near the entrance which was perfect, just a couple of minutes walk to the amenities which was essentially the restaurant, show bar for evening entertainment, the sports zone and spa. The beach with watersports was at the other end of the park and there’s a great coastal walk you can choose rather than the road.
I asked my son about his favourite part of the holiday and he couldn’t really give me one thing. He loved the swimming in the in and outside pools along with all the pool activities he joined. He spent a ridiculous time at the sports zone, and I have to say is staffed by the most accommodating team ever. Nothing was too much trouble for Callum and the team, Jamie thinks they’re fabulous because they made a fuss of him, along with the other kids of course. Even in the wind and rain, if the kids are up for the activities, they were too. Even though it meant they would be drenched for hours, they happily let the kids rock climb, or have fun in the hamster balls (water walkers). They even rearranged the timetable so we could do activities that were already fully booked. An impeccable service.
The ‘funstars’ are the team who look after the kids, a bunch of fun loving 20 something’s who always have a smile for the kids and are ready for entertaining. They come into their own in the evening when the entertainment is on, it’s all very much children led – aka slightly cheesy – but lots of fun and the kids clearly love it. The main funstar, Stuart, has been amazing, he has taken my shy little chap and given him masses of confidence by making him leader of the wildlife crew when they went hunting around the park one afternoon, and he even brought Jamie up onto stage one evening to assist in a magic trick which made his week. He along with his team were fabulous.
The Jubilee party (and the reason we came) was unfortunately rained on, as it was nationwide, but the party was brought indoors and we had an indoor street party which was the best we could expect but there was plenty to do, from watching the funstars being gunged to Karaoke. It was fun…mainly for the kids.
Whilst here I simply had to, under the pretence of reviewing the facilities, try out the spa! So whilst my son and his grandma were swimming I made my escape and checked in and I’m very pleased I did, for just half an hour I had a wonderful recharge and some well deserved me time…all 30 heavenly minutes of them, then it was back out into the rain to get little one out of the pool.
Food in the bar was ok, fairly priced and well presented, we were all happy with that. The onsite Spa shop had everything we needed and a short drive away there is a chip shop, Chinese and an Asda supermarket too.
It was quite wet most of the time we were there so beach time was limited, the watersports beach onsite is small and lovely, but just off site there’s a big adventure playground with an outdoor lido and fabulous beach. It’s not quite walking distance but well worth the 3 or 4 minute drive.
The location of Rockley Park is perfect for us – straight down the motorway and you’re there. Its position is great – no windy roads and it’s easy to find. We will definitely come back here soon, it’s a super place.
