This paperback book, Heads Up – 20 Fabulous Fascinators and Hair Accessories to Stitch and Sew, is written by Carol Meldrum and gives easy to follow instructions on how to create and make your own fascinators, headbands and hair clips.
The book’s instructions are simple, to the point and would suit a novice crafter as well as those crafters who are more experienced. The book illustrates how you can create these hair accessories by using a range of needlecraft techniques including sewing, embroidery, knitting & crochet.
To make headbands and clips you are shown steps on how to embellish them with embroidery stitches, buttons and beads. You can create your own fascinator, headband or hair clips with a totally original and unique style (unlike any that you can buy on the high street).
Being more a novice crafter myself I found the book really easy to read and follow and so far have made a few headbands for my 2 daughters. Being able to create your own hair accessories makes a great gift idea to give to friends/loved ones and makes it a totally thoughtful, unique and tailored gift. I think the book is good value for money.
The only improver point I would make would be that it would be great if the book came as a starter pack or gift set and included some materials to be able to create some of the items, as it can be quite costly to have to go out and get all the materials needed to make these accessories. I just feel that by giving customers a little of the materials and tools to start them off would be a very nice touch.
I would recommend.
