A very nicely packaged item. Brightly coloured cardboard box, which to my children made it look very exciting. The contents are good and also colourful. The goggles went straight onto my little boys head and stayed there throughout – he thought he was a scientist! All very exciting.
The instructions are clear and easy to digest even for younger children. The volcano is the main part and is well done and easy to assemble. I particularly liked the way the foam eruption from the top of the volcano cascaded down on carved out parts of the volcano making it look more realistic. The ‘eruption’ was at first a slight let down until my daughter gave it a bit of a shake and was rewarded with an eruption that shot out the top of the volcano and hit the kitchen cupboard. My son thought that was great!
The cardboard people cut-outs, though seem like an unnecessary addition and were not used – there seemed little point really. They should have saved the money and supplied another pair of goggles – surely this type of ‘toy’ will be played by numbers of children at the same time? Who gets to wear the goggles? Does it mean that those without cant watch it or if they do that they are in some sort of danger?
Actually the danger element here seems to us to be almost non-existent bar making sure that the chemicals are not swallowed or similar. Not suitable for the very young of course but 8 and above quite safe with or without goggles.
The only other negative is that once it’s been done that’s pretty much it. A toy you play with for about 20 minutes and then back in the box never to be seen again. I wish there was more that could be done to maintain the interest – forever bigger and more powerful explosions for instance, but costs and safety are obvious factors. So for a short nice experiment type of toy it’s a success.
