I was really looking forward to seeing the Kast Off Kinks at the Grove Theatre in Dunstable on Saturday. We arrived at the theatre and parked in the spacious free car park. After a short walk we went into the theatre foyer which was very busy with people getting drinks and looking forward to seeing the show. The foyer is very large and has lots of comfy sofas and tables and chairs for people to socialise before going into the auditorium. We picked up our tickets from a very friendly member of staff. Our tickets were for entrance A. Both entrance A and B are very well signposted. We were shown to our seats, which have is a brilliant view of the stage.
At 7.30 on the dot the Kast Off Kinks came on stage and introduced themselves as Mick Avory, the original drummer since 1964, John Dalton, bass and vocals since 1966, Ian Gibbons, keyboard and vocals since 1979 and Dave Clark, guitar and main vocalist, originally with the Beach Boys. As soon as they started the evening’s entertainment, the audience were clapping and singing along. There was a lot of interaction with the audience, who were loving every minute of it. They sang a lot of songs which I had forgotten were even hits of theirs. It was a great first half.
They stopped for a short interval and in this time we went to the bar to get a drink and after waiting a short while was served by a very pleasant young man, who was actually run off his feet but gave great service. We went back into the auditorium eagerly waiting for the second half of the show and we weren’t disappointed as they sang more of their famous songs like Dedicated Follower of Fashion, Sunny Afternoon, Lola and Waterloo Sunset. They had the audience on their feet dancing and when they played their encore of You Really Got Me they closed with rapturous applause.
It was a very entertaining evening and I would recommend you go to see them if you get the chance.
