Kids Off School? Keep Them Entertained

The kids have only just gone back to school, but before we know it, they’ll be off again. There are snow days, sick days, and teacher training days that we all have to, ahem, look forward to. What can you do when you get a day like this? You won’t always have the cash to send them to the cinema, take them to a theme park, or do something else with them. Sometimes, you just need to find ways to keep them entertained, and fast! Here are some ideas that can help you:

Give Them Lots Of Craft Materials

One way to keep kids entertained for a while is to give them lots of craft materials and let their imaginations run wild. You could give them a number of different textured materials, paper, colouring pencils, beads – anything that you think they’ll like. Obviously you need to make it age appropriate for them, so don’t give a very small child beads that they could put in their mouth and swallow. It’s always a good idea to have a craft kit tucked away somewhere for when the kids are off school.

Let Them Have A Film And Pyjama Day

Sometimes, nothing is more thrilling to kids than staying in their pyjamas all day and letting them watch films. You could even give them some ice cream and other treats, but you can still have fun with lots of healthy snacks. Pick some films they might want to watch back to back and see if it keeps them quiet for a while. Just be warned, some kids have short attention spans and this idea won’t always work! It’s a great idea for a snow day, though!

Build A Fort With Them

Build a fort with your kids and let them stay in it all day. You can use blankets, sofa cushions, pillows, boxes and anything else you can find in the house. Kids can literally spend hours in a fort without getting bored. All they might need is a book or some paper and pencils, and they’ll stay quiet. You could even give them a tablet to look at sites like Hawkin’s Bazaar while they spend time in their fort. There’s something really relaxing about spending time secluded in their own little fort.

Let Them Help You

If you’ve got jobs that you need to be getting on with, why not let them help you? Whether you’re cooking, painting, or doing household chores, get them involved in some way. Put some music on and give them age appropriate tasks. This will help them strengthen their skills and development too!

Go For A Walk

One of the cheapest things you can do without lazing around the house is go for a walk. Why not look online to find a nice walk in your area? This is perfect if you have a pet, but it isn’t necessary! Put some comfortable and practical clothes on and go get some fresh air. It might even tire them out and get them in bed early!

Ask Them To Write You A Story

Kids have a better imagination than adults, so why not ask them to write you a story? You could even give them a few ideas and see what they come up with.

What will you do while your kids are off school?
