I can’t tell you how much I was looking forward to reviewing the Kinetik Beauty Love My Skin Clear Skin Pen. Through my teenage years I suffered with breakouts but even into my 30s I have found that at certain times of the month (you know what I mean ladies) I have hormonal breakouts of adult acne. I would say that it is only mild to moderate but still means that I need to apply makeup every day if I want to feel comfortable showing my face in public!
The Love My Skin (LMY) Clear Skin Pen advertises itself as a ‘revolution in clearing spots’. It uses red light therapy (which is a safe and natural spot treatment) to help clear spots and blemishes by reducing redness and inflammation. The product itself is a great little size, nice and handy to pop into your handbag. It is sleek and stylish and very lightweight. Incredibly easy to use as well, you just hold the pen on to the spot/blemish, press the button and hold it in place for 1 minute until the beeping finishes and the red lights go out. It should be applied 3 times a day for the best results but as it needs to be applied to clean dry skin, I found that it suited me better to apply twice a day, morning and night. Easy to clean too, the manual advising to use either alcohol wipes (which I don’t have) or a soft dry cloth to clean the surface of the pen.
Now don’t get me wrong, over the years I have tried a good few spot treatments with limited success so I wasn’t expecting miracles here but I was pleasantly surprised. I have recently changed my skincare routine in addition to using the Clear Skin Pen so although I can’t confidently attribute all of the success to this product I definitely noticed a marked difference in the size, redness and longevity of blemishes. Even from the first day of using I found that any spots I had (I usually get the red non-squeezy ones that sit under the skin) did appear less red and did not hang around for as long as before treatment. I have only been using for 10 days or so but the outlook is bright that this product does what it says on the tin (not a literal tin, it’s packaged rather nicely as it happens). I’m not sure how effective it would be on larger areas or indeed more severe acne but for what I need, as probably a lot of women, it is ideal.
It comes with quite a steep RRP of £49.99 so it is worth considering whether you will stick with it rather than using it once in a blue moon but if you’re anything like me, when I think of how much I must have spent over the years on different creams and treatments it doesn’t seem too much. I’m certainly going to stick with my new skincare routine in combination with the LMS Clear Skin Pen and the once impossible feat of leaving the house sans foundation now seems that little bit more attainable…
