Having 2 young boys (aged 2 and 4) the Fridge Phonics set from LeapFrog was a welcome learning toy to our household. It came in a vibrant box that was full of info and colourful illustrations. It was well packed yet easy to get out of the box.
The Fridge Phonics is a little bus that can be stuck to the fridge and it comes with the letters of the alphabet on 26 individual magnetic letters that fit into the bus one at a time, these also stick to the fridge when they aren’t in use.
Each time you put a letter into the bus ‘Tad’ the bus driver will tell you the name of the letter and the sound it made, the more you press the more information, it would tell you something that began with that letter and then put it into a sentence… D is for driver… the driver is sat in the seat… it also had a button that when pressed it recited the alphabet, all in a learning, yet fun manor. It also sings the wheels on the bus song. All are in an British accent that was easy to understand.
It takes 3 AAA batteries which are included, so the toy is ready to use straight out of the box which was a godsend because my boys couldn’t wait to get their little hands on it and give it a go.
The magnetic letters are a decent size and are easy to put into the bus, which my 2 year old was pleased with and was very proud of himself each time he was able to insert a letter, my older children had fun in helping making up games like ‘can you find the letter…’ and giving the young ones a helping hand. My boys play this over and over again so I’m overjoyed at the volume on the side giving me the option to have it at full or half volume as well as off.
A fun and education toy that would benefit any young child. I’m off to buy more as a present for my young nephews.
If you haven’t already got one of these it would be something I would recommend.
