We received LOGO Billionaire from Drumond Park for review. It is a board game for between 2-6 players and is unsuitable for those under the age of 8.
The objective of the game is to be the first player to get one billion pounds (that’s 100x 1,000,000 and not 1,000,000 x 1,000,000), this is achieved by collecting, buying and trading well known household brands (such as Oxo cubes and Persil Automatic etc…)
The game itself is well packaged with everything needed to play included and uses a banking system similar to a well-known property trading game, the rules are simple and come in two tiers:
“Apprentice” – this is for the younger players and sports simplified rules that enable play to move swiftly and the game to last about ¾ of an hour.
“Executive”- this is for advanced players with more options including hostile takeovers and will probably take the best part of an evening to play.
Both sets of rules have easy to follow quick play sheets to enable players to get stuck in rather than focusing on the rulebook before first time use.
We enjoyed playing this with our daughters, admittedly our youngest is 6 and lost interest in the game after 20 minutes (bear in mind it is supposed to be for age 8 and over) but it was a good way to get them to practise their adding up skills and even a bit of times table as well.
We found the game good to play because the board is bright and the brands used are instantly recognisable meaning that the girls enjoyed forming companies made with their favourite sweets and ice-creams (but were loathed to put them back in the deck after they had been sold).
If I was to improve one thing it would be to remove the spinner in the middle of the board as it occasionally gets stuck and would replace it with dice.
Overall it was a good family game to play, using the apprentice rules the game lasted about the right length of time and we will definitely be playing many times in the future.
