On Saturday night (3 December 2016) I was lucky enough to be able to see Madness, an English ska band that were big in the 70s and 80s, on the Brighton leg of their Can’t Touch Us Now tour. My ‘slightly keen on Madness’ boyfriend and I decided to make a weekend of it, so we arranged a hotel for the night as well.

Madness are playing 11 dates throughout December in the UK and were going to the see band at the Brighton Centre, which was very easy to find. We arrived an hour before the doors opening time and had a pleasant chat with some of the other fans waiting to, see the show. Security staff scanned our tickets and let us into the venue, checking our bags etc. on the way in.  We had seats, not standing tickets, so we headed upstairs to our seats.

At 7.45pm, The Lightning Seeds, an alternative rock band from Liverpool, came on stage and sang a lovely range of songs, most of which I recognised. The band had a very approachable, friendly manner. I was sad when their set ended. I would have loved to hear more songs. We then sat in our seats, enjoying a drink while Madness’s team prepared the stage for their set.

At 9pm Madness came out and wow, it was magical. They sang a brilliant range of songs from their back catalogue and their new album Can’t Touch Us Now (available to buy now from Amazon and other music outlets). Songs that stick out for me were ‘Our House’, ‘Baggy Trousers’, ‘It Must Be Love’ and their new song ‘Mr Apples’. I was singing along to all the songs, I knew the words too. It was lovely to see the people in the standing area having a good boogie to the music. The atmosphere in the venue was phenomenal.

My Madness loving boyfriend was beaming from ear to ear the whole time. It was such a nice evening to spend together. He bought himself some lovely items from the official merchandise stand. There was a family stood near to us on the west balcony and the youngest child knew every word to every song. The whole family was getting into the spirit of things.

The band members interacted really well with the audience and there was a story to tell in anticipation of many of the songs.

A most enjoying evening at a lovely venue from an amazing band. If you want to see them this year they are on tour with Can’t Touch Us Now until 17 December 2016, from London to Glasgow! Book tickets now, you won’t be disappointed.
