I attended the Royal & Derngate in Northampton last night with my daughter to see the smash hit musical Mamma Mia which is touring the UK. For the first time ever writing a review I don’t know where to start, what to rave about first. Let’s start with you really MUST see this show.
We have both seen this in the West End last August, so knew the story, love ABBA, so we were prepared to enjoy. I could have stayed in my seat and watched it again… and again… and again.
A whole host of ABBA favourites are interwoven into the story of Donna, the single parent who is preparing for her daughter Sophie’s wedding. I think Donna played by Helen Hobson stole the show closely followed by Lucy May Barker. The chemistry between the cast was electric, I think my favourite was Emma Clifford as Tanya… I could quite believe she would teach Pepper a thing or two about life, to be fair Rosie (Gillian Hardie) was also fab. Let’s not forget the men in this story… Sky, oh Sky, what a body! Phillip Ryan you have two new fans! The three dads all deserve a mention, great acting, singing and dancing. I think what grabbed me the most was the whole cast looked like they were have a ball. The energy was amazing.
The set, the outfits… the dancing… oh the dancing, loved loved loved it all. The singing was on point and well ABBA is ABBA. I sang the whole way through the show and couldn’t wait to leap to my feet and dance our way to the finale. Best god damned finale I’ve ever seen. I’m sure the whole theatre were on their feet. Huge congratulations to all, this show will run and run, grab yourself a ticket and don’t miss this amazing show. It’s Abbatastic!
Tickets cost from £15 to £59.50 (booking fees may apply).
