The first Miffy Book was published in 1955 so here I am 50 years later reading this hardback book to my great nephew who is 20 months old.
All of the Miffy books are quite minimalistic this one being in the same format. I found myself almost singing the words as they all flowed quite pleasantly.
My great nephew was very attentive and really enjoyed the story so much so I had to read it to him again.
There was a story behind the book that older readers would understand. Miffy who is a rabbit is very excited to see the snow and wants to go out and play. The story behind the book is that you can have fun in the snow providing you follow basic rules and instructions. One example is Miffy got her hat, wellies, scarf and gloves to keep her warm and to get a small child to do the same you could say to them get your warm things just like Miffy did.
It also explains about the different textures of ice and snow and that snow is fluffy and you can have fun as it is fluffy to fall into whereas ice is hard and can hurt, so be careful. Miffy made a little bird’s house to keep a bird warm, which showed kindness and consideration.
I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars and suggest an age group of 2 – 4 years.
Miffy 50 years on will attract another generation of reader who will most certainly love Miffy.
