We were lucky enough to be chosen to the review mifold Grab-and-Go Booster® Seat. This is the perfect seat for our small little family and the perfect companion for an on the go family. Mifold claim to be 10x smaller than a regular booster seat so that you can take it with you anyway. We were about to find out!

UK law requires that all children must use the correct child seat until they are 12 years old or 135cm in height (whichever comes first). mifold is a Group 2/3 seat and can be used by children from the weight of 15kg which is approximately the age of 4 years old.

The seat comes in a well-protected well fitting, small box. It is well branded and you already know before opening what you are going to get inside. From the size of the box you know you are going to be surprised by the size of the mifold. Before you even open it, you can tell that the mifold really is going to be 10x smaller than a regular booster seat.

In the box is the seat and a number of different instruction guides in a variety of languages so everyone is covered and can fit the seat safely. The instructions are very easy to follow and the seat can be taken out of the box and fitted in just a few minutes.

Once you open the box the seat is well packaged and kept in place with a cardboard surround so that you know it has been safe in transit, taking out the mifold you can feel it is good quality straight away, it is a good weight and all parts feel and look sturdy and secure. The mifold comes in a number of colours to suit your child or a neutral grey suitable for all.

The mifold is made from airforce grade aluminium and super tough plastic and has been rigorously tested even under extreme use.

The mifold has been designed to fit in where other car seats can’t or are not used, for taxi journeys, carpooling, holiday use, on minibuses or coaches, or where there is no room for a 3rd booster seat.

We fit into the last category, we have a 4, 2 and 5 month old, we have two bulky seats in use in the back of the car and no room for a third, instead of using nothing we have had the 4 year old in the front of the car on his high backed booster and myself squeezed into the middle space in the back to make sure everyone was in the best place. The mifold has completely turned around the possibilities for us, instead of me having to be uncomfortable and somewhat stuck (literally) in the back of the car, I have now been able to swap with my son and know he is much safer on the mifold than in the middle with no seat which is legally allowed!

The mifold is quick and easy to use, it sits on the seat you are going to be using, the child sits on top and you then push the side lap belt guides into the right place for the size of the child, the shoulder belt guide is also easy to shorten or lengthen depending on the height of the child and simple to clip into position. It is exceptionally portable so can be stored easily in the car for when needed or put somewhere safely in the house, it can even be popped into a school bag for use in a friend’s car after school.

As for portability and being 10x smaller, it certainly lives up to its claims. It folds up into a really portable and manageable size; 10” x 5”, so it really is portable as it can fit into a handbag, backpack or glove box. It is very easy to fold/unfold as seen in the How To Use mifold video here.

My son is comfortable on it, the seatbelt is held nicely in place and thanks to the non-slip coating on the fabric part of the seat he didn’t move from where he should be. The only thing I would mention is that when a 4 year old gets into the car, instead of just sitting in the right position on the seat, due to their height they slide back onto the seat and this can cause it to fold and go up the back of the car seat, this is not a safe position and you need to ensure they get off and you lift them on into the right place. Other than this really rather minor issue it is a fantastic seat that really does solve a multitude of problems and fits every need with style.

This is definitely something that I would recommend to everyone in need of a portable, easy, on the go solution to in car safety.
