OXO Good Grips Kitchen Utensils Review

Reviewed by Debbie Talbot

After a few years of having some pain issues, but not knowing why, I was diagnosed with Hypermobility Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and Fibromyalgia this year. Even before I was diagnosed, I would struggle with some of the everyday kitchen utensils. Receiving a selection of OXO Good Grips items to review has changed my life. Here is what I received:

Pop-Out Apple Divider (£12): This is made of very strong materials and is a bright red colour. The grips were so comfortable to hold. The parts are removable allowing easy cleaning. I followed the instructions on the packet and sliced the apple with no trouble, separating out the core. It didn’t take a really hard push to cut the apple.

4” (10cm) Pizza Wheel for Non-Stick Pans (£9): This item is so comfortable to hold. The blade is not made of stainless steel, so is safer as it is a clear plastic. This cut easily through my pizza without making the tray. A thumb guard stops your thumb hitting the when when slicing.

Y Peeler (£6.50): As with all of the other Good Grips items, this is a brilliantly comfortable item to grip. Being very clumsy, I was also relieved to see that the grip is non-slip. This is perfect for peeling potatoes. This is a task which has been known to cause me a lot of pain in the past. The stainless steel blade is really sharp. The eyer makes removing blemishes a doddle.

Silicone Spatula (£7): I love this item. It has so many uses in the kitchen. It’s a funky red and black colour (also available in white). It’s easy to grip when stirring cake mix, heat resistant up to 600°F and as it’s silicone, doesn’t damage pans.

3-in-1 Avocado Slicer (£8): First of all, I used the tool to slice my avocado length ways. I then pressed the pitter into the fruit to remove the pit. I gently used my finger to press the pit through the small hole to release it. The final step was to press the slicer into the avocado to slice and remove the fruit. This was comfortable to grip and so easy to use. This item can be washed on the top rack of a dishwasher.

Two-Fold Grater (£14): This item is made of stainless steel. What I love about this item most of all is that this item can be used fixed together or apart. There are 2 sizes of grater, so you can grate various things. The grips and feet are non-slip and the whole thing is so comfortable to hold.

This can be washed on the top rack of the dishwasher. The two graters can be separated and used that way.  I find this so easy to use. Grating cheesed used to be a task I dreaded.

Locking Can Opener with Lid Catch (£15): I can take several attempts to attach a can opener to a can. This has a viewing window which is so handy. The magnet removes the lid without you having to touch it with your hands. The knob is larger than you would expect and much easier to use than regular can openers.

Jar Opener (£7.50): I love the sleek black look of this item. The grip is soft and non-slip so is great for someone as clumsy as myself. The design itself lets you see the jar lid. The teeth are made of stainless steel, so opening the jar is safe.

Garlic Press (£14): What struck me most of all was how sturdy this item was. The chamber of the tool is large enough to press multiple cloves of garlic. It’s made of die-cast zinc. The built in cleaner pushes out the garlic peel. The way the holes have been designed mean that you end up with the best possible amount of pressed garlic.

Kitchen and Herb Scissors (£15): What I first noticed about these scissors was the generous gap where you put your fingers and how comfortable they are to hold. The blades can actually be taken apart for easy cleaning. The blades are made of stainless steel and seem to cut effortlessly. The pads definitely absorbed some of the pressure of cutting, making the whole process of cutting items more pleasant. I love the herb stripper part of the scissors. You can remove the herbs from the tough stems. I was also relieved to see the design prevented slipping. I think these have to be the best pair of scissors I have ever had.

Overall, OXO Good Grips kitchen utensils look amazing, excellent quality, safe and comfortable to use.
