The OXO Good Grips Poultry Lifter is one of those things that you don’t think you need until you use it. I was quite surprised to find that this was really very useful.
It is designed to make the process of transferring turkey or chicken from pan to dish with one easy motion. It consists of a large black non slip handle and a hook shape pole with a prong on the end. Basically you insert the prong end into the cavity of the bird and then you are able to lift the bird up. The prongs mean that the bird is secure and does not rotate whilst you are lifting it up.
I tested the OXO Good Grips Poultry Lifter out on both a turkey and a chicken. It dealt with both very well, and made it easy to remove the bird from the roasting tin, allowing me to drain the juices to make gravy. The only time it failed was when I tried to remove a chicken from my slow cooker, and the prongs made the very succulent chicken split into two pieces. This does happen sometimes when I cook the chicken in the slow cooker, so I wouldn’t say that it was entirely the poultry lifters fault.
The Poultry Lifter seems well made and of solid construction. I have found that OXO products have always lasted very well. It is dishwasher safe (a must in my house!), and cleans very easily.
One issue I have with this is that I struggled to find a space to store it. It is quite large (approx 25cm x 19cm), and has protruding prongs on it. The prongs aren’t that sharp, but you wouldn’t want to come across them when rummaging in a drawer or cupboard.
I’m generally not a fan of kitchen gadgets that only have one real function, but this one has won me over.
