Paul Daniels The First Farewell Tour Review

Paul Daniels
The First Farewell Tour

I recently got the chance to see Paul Daniels and his lovely wife Debbie Mcgee on their 'First Farewell Tour' at the Darwen Library Theatre in Blackburn. Firstly the theatre, it’s a typical small local theatre, the type every town should have, close to the town centre with car parking, it only seats 200 but this provides a fantastically intimate atmosphere. They have a wide variety of shows which really would suit most family members, if you’re local to this venue I would make sure you get down for a visit.

One of the things I found most interesting was the audience for this show, there were the keen magic circle members sat on the front row, with a good scattering of families with children from about the age of 6 to couples and groups of friends. The great thing about the content of the show is every single member of the audience enjoyed it – yes there were jokes for adults but the very visual elements of some of the tricks had the younger members of the audience screaming with laughter.

Hard to go into the show itself without spoiling the tricks, but there were a good variety of tricks covering a whole range of styles. One of the nice things about the show was Paul's constant rapport and the information he gave on the background of the tricks. Some of his most famous tricks were in there including the famous geometric box and spirit room – both drawing gasps from the audience.

There is a level of audience participation in this show (beware if you have tickets for the first few rows) but whilst its 'voluntary' the atmosphere Paul creates means that even though people are apprehensive to get involved to start with by the last trick people were clambering over themselves to take part!

This is the first time I have been to watch a magic show and it certainly won't be my last. This is a great show for all the family (I would say children have to be 6 plus-ish). It’s on tour until 23rd February so plenty of time to get to see the show!

A final lovely touch was Paul coming out to meet the audience after the show to sign things and have photos taken. It was greatly appreciated looking at the crowds surrounding him!

5 out 5* fantastically entertaining night!
