WOW! WOW! WOW! What an amazing show! If you want to be thrilled and get into the Christmas spirit, then the Theatre Royal in Plymouth’s pantomime Peter Pan is the show you need to see.
From the start you are brought into the tale in the Darling children’s nursery where we see Nana, Wendy played by (Mikaela Newton) and Michael and John played this evening by local lads (Noah Crump and James Ferrier) all being woken by the arrival of Peter Pan (Joe Sleight) and his great flying skills.
There is magic in this show from the very beginning with lots of flying and the sets are amazing full of fantastically bright colours and fairy glitter some of the best I’ve ever seen looking around the theatre it was obvious from the children’s faces that they were feeling the magic too also the costumes help the magic along with all the sparkle, glitter and wonderful colours.
The song and dance numbers are like something from a musical very well choreographed by (Barbara Evens) and are wonderfully performed especially by Tiger Lilly (Joelle Dyson) and Mimi the Magical Mermaid (Rachel Spry) oh and not to forget Tinker Bell (Isobel Hathaway) on rollerblades a great way for a fairy to get about.
Mr Smee (Andy Ford) was great at engaging the children and adults alike with his funny jokes and innuendos and his fantastic energy and presence on the stage.
Steve McFadden plays an evil Captain Hook that everybody loved to boo there were also some good references to Albert Square and a lovely unexpected hilarious dance scene to look out for.
The theatre is in the heart of Plymouth and is very easy to find being at the bottom of Royal Parade. Plymouth has a good rail and coach network and the theatre is easily reached by bus or car and there is ample parking with at least 3 car parks very close by.
All the theatre staff are very friendly and helpful they all seemed to be enjoying the atmosphere. The theatre has a lovely coffee shop with a good supply of drinks, food, snacks and cakes everywhere is clean and tidy overall a very nice theatre.
I cannot recommend this show highly enough. A proper family pantomime, you will definitely leave with that magical Christmas feeling.
Well done Theatre Royal, a well-deserved 5 stars.
